my Cobalt SS/SC vs a LS1 GTO **VIDEO**
It's easy to see who knows what there talking about and who don't here. The LS1 GTO was not a mistake by any means, they just aren't as fast as the 2005+. It's no different than the Z06 just because the LS7 came out doen't mean a LS6 is crap.
By the way do you really think your funny Mines_Better? My SS/SC was fast why you ask because I could drive. Just like in my GTO no launch issues or wheel spin that rookies complain about just a nice squat and launch.
Given there was a video all it proves is the good ole a car is only as fast as it's driver mumbo jumbo. So stop with the how hard is it to race with an auto BS, he hits it almost 2 seconds after the SS/SC. Do you people really think a GTO would drop back that far anyway?

here is a little more fuel to the fire...
He was in GEAR in his auto when we raced from a roll..
That is what he told me... now why would he lie?
I don't understand the LS1 putdowns. There is how much of a difference in WHP between the 2 cars? Were the gears changed or was the body lightened? I can't see 30-40WHP max making THAT much of a difference in a 3800LB car. Neither is slow, but to put down the LS1 is just sad.
I've never heard of an autocross GTO. I can't imagine it's the best car (or even a good car) to autocross. It has A LOT of weight to move around.
And GTO's really open up in the 90's. My buddies GTO would pull on me stock-for-stock every time around 90-95.
People need to give credit where it's due:
The Cobalt looked like he pulled on the GTO. That should be the end of the story. Cobalt SS/SC can be pretty quick when modded properly.
The GTO is a very heavy car and it's equally impressive that it can be that quick when it's approaching the 2 TON mark.
Relax, it's all GM.

you can hear the car downshift.. the 2 seconds was from the time it took for him to push the pedal untill the time his car started pulling once it downshifted... an untuned automatic is slow at shifting
Evolvr2006 there is a lot of difference between the LS1 and LS1 GTO but the LS1 isn't slow, more like ones fast and the other is faster. The LS1 guys will say there isn't much difference but thats because they have a LS1.
Seriously though the video din't show jack, be it shift delay or falling asleep at the wheel it took off late. Even then it should have been able to remain the same disatnce away as the original delay caused. The way it drops back say one thing the video was staged or he has some issues.
My SS/SC with Stage 2 alone would simply pace or pull a few inches on a LS1 from a roll. Your car doesn't have enogh power to change that to carlengths.

I too am a GTO owner and here are my thoughts. The auto X thing is just a body kit, bumpers, skirts, grills, but it was missing the taller spoiler. FYI
That GTO was the slowest ones to race. Auto's typically run mid-higher 13's with 101-104 traps. This is in no way taking away from the kill. The first race was in fact a solid win for the balt'. Granted the first car length came from the wait in the tranny to down shift, with the torque these cars put out if he was going to make it even or pull it would have started right there. Taking that one car away he still pulled a solid car length or more on him. He is fairly heavily modded. If it was a well driven 6spd LS1 it would have been a even heat or even a very slight loss as speeds got over a 100.
The second race there was no lifting as you pulled madly on him. He was ahead by a 1/2 car then let off (traffic or something? were you guys coming up on anything or maybe a radar detector going off?) Anyways, it did better from a dig which is what auto V8's do well. As you said, when you race an LS2 from a roll, especially if it is a 6spd, you are going to be in trouble.
Please guys don't take anything away from the LS1's. Those motors are what started the whole LS motor craze. They have propelled stock SS's into the high 12's, just like the LS2 is doing in the GTO's. They are running sick times on motor, and are sinister on spray or forced induction. It just has to pull around a little more weight, still the same 360 ish hp highway monster motor as in all other F-body's and most C5's. SYP has the trap speed listed to beat a auto, maybe even a 6spd LS1 in the right conditions on the highway, a few more MPH's are going to be needed to take down a auto or 6spd LS2. I just wouldn't consider that dig race a win though. Keep the vids coming though, these balts are fast and I much respect them. Keep taking down the imports! We goat guys will work on the high power imports (and Fords and Dodges, haha) Tyler

I've never raced a 2005+ from a dig so I have no reference for that but I did pull on a 2006 6spd GTO from a 20-100 race by about 3-4 cars over the weekend... I raced a 2004 6spd with long tubes, exhaust, intake, and hptune a couple weeks ago and it was about the same exact results... Those are just my personal experiences, both races the GTO owners were cool afterwards they both stated they "had no idea a Cobalt could be that fast."
the only reason i think this thread is hilarious is because of who the OP is , i mean , look at his other races , a 750 BMW il beat him , and they run a 14.2 , i think your hilarious running an automatic stock gto from a roll, WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE , thats like participating in the special olympics while screaming YAY MY LEGS WORK LOOK AT ME GO WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE , your kills mean nothing to me , only that time in your sig and right now its not impressive !! and to the rest of the people who read this no im not dissing the balt , so dont start b*tching
Many moons ago, in early 2008, I walked an A4 LS2 GTO with my first GTP. It had a baby VS cam, headers, 3.2" pulley and ZZP PCM. 40 to 110 mph I pulled about 2 car lengths.
CodySS got all sorts of asshurt over it. His excuse was that the GTO was driven by a "true authentic homosexual" LOL! Ah the memories...
