Painted my SS/SC rims Graphite with Conti DW

These were my stock ss/sc rims that had horrible curb rash from the previous owner. the gouges were so deep I had to use jb weld to fill them in. now they are like new. i used rustoleum graphite wheel paint and rustoleum clear coat wheel paint.

jb weld, sand, prime, base coat, clear, polish, and sealer

used some saw horses and cardboard to hold em up.

barrels:

face:

clear coat finished.:

on the car after being polished. also applied Rejex sealant.

continental DW 235/40/18. still a bunch of bead sealer all over the tires :P

I plan on switching to SS/TC rims next summer, but these should do for this year.

Thanks! Yeah I saw that in another thread lol. If I could get cheap anthracite paint at the auto parts store, I would have gone that route, but this is the closest I could find.

They look great!!

I have always wanted to paint my rims that color.

How did the paint hold up once the tires were mounted? I'm worried if I painted my rims, the paint would chip everytime I get tires installed.

the tire shop chipped one of them, but it was really bad. the guy obviously sucked with the tire machine. it probably would have even chipped powder coat. i dont like those places even touching my car. i always take the wheels off and take them to them.

i have paint left to touch them up, so im not too worried about it. if you can bake the wheel at 200 for like 10 minutes, it really strengthens the paint. i wasnt too worried about it though, since these are only being used for a season. so far they are holding up pretty well. powder coat will always be way more durable though.

if you have a company paint or powder coat them, then give the tire shop their info and make them pay to get the wheel redone. they are responsible for any damage, but you have to make sure to inspect them before you leave the shop. i painted mine myself, so i couldn't really hand them a bill lol.

Continental*ExtremeContact DW

heres the info on the dw. these things hook like mad, and tire noise is pretty minimum. I like how they are non directional too so i dont need to get the tires dismounted to rotate.

I replaced my broken dp with a zzp 2.5" catted. also running aem dryflow filter with stock intake. I don't plan on making any more power. I beat the living **** out of this car like there is no tomorrow every single time I drive it. I'd like to continue that without blowing up the engine and transmission. I also don't care at all about drag racing, because it says nothing about the full potential of a vehicle or it's driver.

other mods:
lnf trans mounts
ss/tc shocks, struts, and springs
gmpp clutch kit, lnf shifter bracket, lnf tob

I like to float the rpms around 3k and feather the clutch and throttle together to get maximum traction right on the verge of breaking loose when launching. I try to get very minimal wheel spin at first, but just a little bit. It's real easy to get too much wheel spin since first is so short, so it takes some practice. It only chirps in second. On my old tires, I would have to start feathering the throttle as it came around to 5k in 1st to control the wheel spin, but still only chirped going into 2nd.

cornering is really nice on these tires. I take every turn I can at full tilt, and I would say the traction is pretty linear and predictable in the dry when they break loose. I've only driven them a couple times in the rain, and the mold release wasn't gone all the way yet, so they broke loose really quick in the rain. I'm not expecting that to get much better though as is the case with mostly all summer tires.

I'm not expecting these to last long. I'll be happy if they last 8k. I went through some hard compound all seasons in 10k.

Damn man! Nicely done! Im currently thinking about repainting my wheels and seeing how nicely yours came out, I think you just sealed it for me. I just have to decide how much prep work will be in it for me.
