That has nothing to do with it in this instance....and I'll prove it to you. Take a log of intake temps just prior to entering the engine (IAT2's I believe). Let's assume you monitor these temps with a stock car when the weather is a nice ambient 50*F and you see IAT2's around ~60*F under boost (since it pulls in the air from outside of the engine compartment). Do you honestly believe the setup above is going to yeild the same results? If you start by sucking in warmer underhood air into the filter, do you honestly believe the additional heat created during compression plus that underhood air is going to net you the same IAT2's???? I'd be willing to bet...no. They're going to be higher...and like I said originally, I'd rather have a little less cold boost than a little more hot boost.

nothin like suckin in hot air from the engine compartment...shoulda extended the piping down into the fender where the air is probably at least 20-30 degrees colder...

Yeah me and 10,000 other Cobalts with turbo kits that have the same setup. This is temporary until TTR or someone else releases a CAI

This car from the factory knocks, so that's normal. All the LNF guys (Sols and Skys) have the same problem. As long as it's not over 3 degrees, you are fine because when I took a stock log it was knocking. I am actually on HPT, but I've taken care of the knocking issue, now I'm working on the MAF with this new intake

Sweet set up Joe! I can't wait to see it @ the meet on the 26th!

Once TTR, Hahn or whoever can work on making a sleeve that goes directly from the turbo to where your pipe hooks up that'll really help it. And if it does go down below the bumper it's going to be one hell of a CAI...

DUDE! it's a turbo'd car!

no matter what the air is going through the turbo where it's going to get super hot. that is why they invented an IC!

Yes but wouldn't you rather start off with colder air so that it doesn't get as hot goin through the turbo? Aww **** it! All you turbo guys think you're God's gift to the car world and nothing I say is gonna matter to you any way! but for those of you who want to listen to logic colder IAT1's = colder IAT2's. If you're car is suckin in 80 degree air from the fender vs. suckin in 160 degree air from right next to the motor what do you think is gonna give you higher IAT2's? The smart money's on the 80 degree air from the fender offering you lower IAT2's. Lower IAT2's will make more HP. It's not rocket science it's a proven fact...

well its kind of like starting with water or ice and throwing them in a frying pan, guess what... no matter which route you go its about to become hot water...

well same concept, if its cold air or "warm air"..............its about to become hot air once it gets to the turbo

true but if it starts out colder it will stay colder (comparatively) and when it passes through the intercooler it will cool down faster...

If any of you turbo guys who have an interceptor and can test my theory feel free to do so and prove that I'm right. Make a few 3rd gear pulls on your factory air box (or better yet put the filter in the fenderwell and then change over to this short ram lookin thing and do the same thing and I will guarantee you that your IAT2's are higher with the short ram thing than your factory air box...this is simply an appearance/sound mod with little to no real performance function...

dude, chill out...

it's a temp solution until ttr comes out with theirs.

and i say 3lbs of boost is a performance gain, but this mod is manly for sound.

my iats are 5 or so degrees warmer at a stop/idle - and are about 10 degrees colder then stock intake while driving

' i log with a laptop ' but everyday driving i monitor with a dash hawk

ehhh. what ever breaks just gets replaced with something better. if it breaks today i cant bitch ' go fast / expect to break something sooner or later' i have over 60 track passes on my car. already have 10k miles on it. and ran over 20 bottles of nitrous through it ' still runs/drives perfect, compression, afrs etc

Do back to back to back 3rd gear pulls and see what happens....crusing IAT's are completely differant than what you're seeing when the motor is under heavy load...

see i have the small air filter on... i think i am going to get a K&N today and see if the air flow is better

Get yourself a bigger filter, it will help with airflow.
