i was asking the guy thats gonna be doing my tuning later this month about this and he basically said theres no point. if you break something big and take it in for warranty gm is gonna ask you a **** ton of questions about when it happened and none of that is gonna be stored on the stock ecu since it wasnt in the car when it happened. your gonna have just as difficult a time getting warranty work done then as you would with a tune.

not sure if this was talked about earlier in this thread but he made alot of sense when he explained so just thought id share.

Start the car with the stock ECM any codes will be set immediately if something is really wrong plus you can always say you disconnected the battery to be safe. The requirements for engine replacement say nothing about looking for DTC's just for CVN's you are FOR SURE screwed with the wrong CVN's I think most would rather have a safety net

I agree that you're going to be in for a fight either way. Considering how much difficulty owners with stock cars are having getting warranty work done, I'd say we're all in for a fight for anything. Come to think of it, the difficulty we stock owners are getting with warranty work seems to be the fault of those of you that are cheating the system.

i did it like the following:
1. disconected positive off battery
2. disconnected negative off battery
3. took out old ecu
4. put new ecu in
5. put on positive of battery first (my mechanic friend told me to do pos first)
6. put on negative of battery
7. put the key to acc for 30 secs
8. turned the key back to off and took out key
9. put the key back in and started the car
10. let it idle for 10 mins
11. drove and works great
12. still figuring out how to reset the oil meeter

hit info and arrow key together and let go, you need to do it with car on ACC, not running. You can reset it from there

Thanks bro!

the dealer will be able to tell the car has been flashed with the secondary ecu, all they have to do is read the bcm, which you cant flash or read from my understanding. they might start asking questions about it but i dont know for sure if it will **** you out of your warranty....im not 100% curtain.

Dont have to touch battery. You can swap in 2 minutes. by turning car off and swapping computers. thats all. my girlfriend turned the key and put on the radio when i was doing it one day, and i was liek "OMG! WTF DID YOU DO!" but nothing happened, so your car doesnt even have to be completely off to do it either

^^^Incorrect, for some. I have seen some put a new ECU for the first time and every fcking bell and whistle will go off. The car will idle like ****, the DIC will read every error message, and a cel will pop(limited engine power). Its best to unhook cables then replace ECU.

oh definitly if you can. i find myself switching them just to get BOV CEL's off that pop up randomly. and im usually driving down the road going "JEEZUS CHRIST!" and i pull over at a gas station, swap ECM real quick, swap back, and im good to go. dont have a 10mm socket wrench to screw with battery cables and everything. Hasnt let me down since. Plugs in and plugs out.

I just swapped mine without disconnecting the batt...

Threw every error and sounded like a tank... Took it off, disconnected everything, did it again, and now its fine >.>

Once again, its just the yellow i guess. but the 1st time i swapped i swapped, then turned my car to the on position for like 2 minutes, then cranked it. then shut it off real quick. then cranked again and let it idle.

I have did everything that the site said and its still not working. Not sure why...Can you verify my vin number in a pm so i can see if its correct. With it not working am i gonna get a refund or something? I really hoped it would work but its not. I dont know what else to try. Dont wanna try too much because im scared of ruining something.

How long am i suppose to leave the key in the on position without starting it. Also is it normal for the fuel pump to stay on when the key is in the on position without being started.
Let me know asap
