Can someone please explain when the valves are open and closed? Like TDC etc.

Are half open and half closed or how does that work. I was planning on just rolling it and using the borescope camera to make sure it's closed.

You're over thinking it, work the three ports that have the valves closed (verify with a flashlight) when you're done with those three put the car in 4th and roll it back while shining a light and stop the car when the valves are closed. You can see the back of the valves and you will know when they are shut. If you're worried about it change the oil after.

I forgot to ask...

Casionerd- did you pull the fuel line fuse and run the car out of fuel so that you could loosen the inlet fuel line from the pump or did you not even have to touch those connections?

I did neither. The IM will come out with a little tender manipulation.

I pulled the fuse and dropped the pressure, then took the entire inlet line off and put it over my valve cover. Definitely nice to get it out of the way. No fuel leakage either.

I'm writing a very detailed how to on the valve cleaning and manifold removal. Should I make them separate topics?

Decided out of the blue today to take a look at my valves after my poorly done hand job at 50k km's last summer. It just so happens a local group member bought some media and an air gun and two buds where already doing there's when I showed up at the vancity garage. Once done they looked pretty good, blasting took all of 15 minutes, while hitting them with a pick set took a good hour+ for all the hard buildup.

Total job time 3 hours with lots of comments from the peanut gallery

..

Would it be a good idea to run the engine for a few minutes first before the said oil change so debris doesnt fall into your fresh oil?

No

My plan was to upgrade to your system before the valves get nasty again(as in soon). Or should I replace it when I put the separator on?

I would recommend make sure it works. hard to do when the IM is on the car.

Krispy I wish I could take such nice pictures of the valves. How about some "clean" pics? lol
