You honestly believe that our cars are dyno queens. How about boostking who makes similar numbers to me and runs 12.7 at 115 mph those good enough? or revhighs car tuned by Area47 that ran 12.7 at 113 on 91 octane no less. This car is not a DRAG CAR IT IS A ROAD COURSE OR AUTOCROSS car. My tune is a street tune that also hapens to make really good numbers on the dyno and knowing a little about Tuning I can tell you that my tune is way above and beyond what the SC tunes does. There is really no comparison. I think I am going to do a comaprison between my tune, the SC tune, the my stock tune with my car to really set you strait. On my car I guarantee that there is a 30-40 whp difference at least and probably 60 wtrq.

I am not doubting the tuning prowess of you, boostking, area47 or anyone on this board.
I would just like to see some validity to these numbers. As in dyno sheets or time slips. Hell even times around the Nurburgring would suffice.
Is there meth/nitrous involved to cool the intake charge to inflate the numbers? Who knows?

I am not trying to start a fight with you or any of the HPTuners guys - but I wonder why nobody but the HP Tuners guys are so quick to dismantle other people's tunes for no financial benefit of their own. It's not like you guys are competing for people's business. It sounds like you guys tune for a hobby, and that's ok. So if a big company like Superchips gets into the game to make some people happy with a little better numbers, let it go. It's not like they are cutting into your bottom line, are they?

There are options out there. We know that. Some better than others. We know that.

You guys spend more time logging and dynoing than most people. I am sure. You are proud of your numbers, I am sure. Hell, I'm proud to see that an LNF can make what you guys are making.

Don't forget that a Trifecta tuned member has run the same 12.7 that the HP Tuner's guys have! I just had to throw that in there, lol.

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/pictures-videos-64/12-second-passes-174605/

On a side note, I though it was obvious that the SC tune was a tamer tune. They do zero data logging, correct? Trifecta tunes your car, you take it for a spin to data log and Vince adjusts from there until it's right, same thing you'd do on a dyno or with HP Tuners. The SC tune does not take that into account so they need to go tamer so your **** doesn't blow up.

Well I know for a fact that everytime I am in my car I give it a little go. I daily drive a sunfire and leave the cobalt parked for the most part get it out when its nice and such. Though I have been tuned for 5k miles and not have a single hiccup. People have mentioned having problems with NLS such as a CEL light flashing I have never had this issue with the Trifecta tune. I do agree the Trifecta tune does seem to have quite a bit of midrange and a bit lacking on the top. Though I don't know how to tune and there is no local tuners around me so therefore I went that route. Since the base tune from Trifecta which is what I have Vince has gotten an LNF HHR SS so I am sure the tune will be tweaked here and there once he expierements himself.

I know all about that tune. We will have the overboost tables within a week or so so we can finally run more than 22.5 psi too.

All my dyno sheets are in my gallery if you want to look at them. I have no tracks within an hour of me.

I agree and my whole reason for posting up all this info is to inform those who are reviewing their tuning options. As myself, 06 black and 1badblueberrysc have seen this superchips tune we all feel that it leaves alot be be desired as far as performance is concerned and we feel that in our honest opinions that very little effort was put into that tune and they should not be selling it for $350-400 because that is as much if not more than what moset tuners charge for a full tune that can be whatever you want it to be. It can be wild like my tune I run or very mild and focused on long term durability or fuel mileage if you wish. I just hate seeing you guys spend your hard earned money on something that is not quite what it should be IMHO.

You keep including 06black in your statements, but he actually likes the tune for a daily driver!
sweetsandman likes the tune, brewbroo liked the tune, just about all people with SC tune like it.
I don't see Vince in here bashing HP Tuners guys, all I see - and CONTINUE to see is HP Tuners bashing EVERY SINGLE other tune on the market.

Elitist much?

Not at all.
If you read my posts I am not bashing so much as informing. 06black says it is a good safe tune for those who beat the crap out of their cars all the time they are less likely to break things because the tune is very conservative. He agrees with me that the SC tune is also kinda cheap meaning not much thought or effort was put forth in creating it.

i said i like the SC unit over the Trif tune simply because i've worked with SC and have seen the tune. thus i know its not going to blow your car up when you drive it like an idiot for an extended period of time.

do i think SC charges to much, yup.

but i'd take it over the overly rich trif tune simply because i know what exstended periods of overly rich WOT can do to a motor like this.

a motor that was not designed to deal with carbon build up and deposits like a "normal" port injection motor because at its factory released AFR's it is a far less common, and less sever occurrence.

sheesh, i was working with these motors before many people owned LSJ cars

also, having never worked with trif, nor a car tuned by them, i can only go by the maps from them that other people have sent me. and who knows if they've been fucked with or not.

but do they look bad, nahhh. is there a few bits left on the table? sure!

but with a "less is more" approach to that tune, in regards to fuel and cam timeing, I would likely go for it over SC as it delivers more power.

but as of now, yea, i'd tell the average joe blow to go SC if they wont let me go HPT on there car.

yea i dont think these guys are bashing anyone. people ask for info and they give info based on what theyve found. i personally love hearing from T2 cause I feel like I learn alot about whats going on with my car and what its capable of from him, including info that might come in handy when I actually go to get my car tuned.

im not tuned yet but by this point ive done months of research about hptuners, trifecta, sc and i decided im going with hptuners so i can get a tune that allows me to get the most from my car while still keeping within what my tuner and I deem to be safe for my daily driving habits.

Your informing has a negative conotation. I can tell that even in type format. 06black is very informative with his posts without being negative at all. 1badblueberryss was extremely disparaging with the Superchips tune, you agreed. "no effort, no time, no control over parameters, etc."

lol, 9.8 times out of 10 i'm a huge ass hole when dealing with things like this.

however, this time, it seems that we have a consensus between the the three of us, thus there's no need to prove people wrong.

My buddy has the the cortex, and I also had an sc tune loaded as well. Really not "that" bad at all. In fact I would go as far as saying that it will be just fine for a majority of tc owners here. You willl never beat a custom dyno/street tune from someone who knows whats going on and how to tune, problem is they are few and far between. Lots of pretenders around here. I was lucky that my uncles shop uses HPT and had a dyno. I just went really safe here for the time being. The SC and Trifecta are a good generic choice to get a few more ponies under the hood. I have nothing bad to say about hpt, trifecta , or sc, choose what you wanna choose they are all great products.

It's funny cause when my uncle and I spoke to SC to get info about the unit (We were ordering the cortex for my buddy who didnt want to go the hpt route) we got into a great conversation about tuners etc. Some well know hpt guys were engaging SC to get them to use their tunes etc and some went away mad when they were shown the door

"yeah, we had a few people approach us to provide us with tunes etc, but one by one there were problems found with them and we parted ways with several well known tuners in the cobalt field."

Was I degrading... sure maybe I was. But for the hard headed people, who don't seem to want to listen sometimes that is what it takes.

What Bryan is talking about is this... the motor doesn't take well to highly rich conditions like the Trifecta tune, the SC tune is rich but not nearly as bad as the Trifecta making it a bit safer for the long run. Most HPT tuners for the LNF try and keep the AFR's as high as possible, within safety precautions for the tune.

The SC tune is great for those who don't wish to have the highest HP you can get, but like the ability to beat the **** out of their cars without worries of breaking it.

I do agree that SC is WAY overpriced for the amount of tuning involved, they changed 2 maybe 3 tables in the tune, and thats it about 5 minutes worth of work... for $350!

Sorry if we come off like dicks sometimes, but once again 90% of the people on this board don't listen worth a **** when we just try to give information. So we get assholish and low and behold everyone listens.

Look, the majority of us are here to give out information, whethere you chose to listen and take our advice or not is completely up to you. But for the most power, and the most control over said tables HPTuners is the way to go.

Take it or leave it I am done with these threads

Let me know when you are planning on getting HP Tuners as I would like to get it as well. Maybe we can get T2 to come up here and tune us personally! And I totally agree with you about the tune being safe for daily driving habits...I don't want a tune that will push the limits all the time, but one that will let me get the power I need/want without hurting or pushing the car past the limits of "safeness". Couldn't really think of a better word. LOL.

wish u werent done with these threads lol. even though i dont post much in the tuning threads, partly caz im still learning and mostly cause I only feel the need to post if I have a question, i still read most of the tuning threads for the lnf so i can learn as much as possible. if you guys stopped posting your info id be screwed it might sound a lil crazy, but i even jot down some stuff you guys post (stuff from the intake/tuning thread and from this one about the a/f ratio) so that when i go to get my car tuned I have a lil input for my tuner.

yea i think thats what all of us that use our tc as our dd are looking for. i found a guy that lives maybe 10 mins away thats willing to tune my car using hptuners for $200, and that includes the $100 to unlock my vin. hes really knowledgeable and has tuned some local ss/sc already so hes fimiliar with the ecotec platform. dont get me wrong id love to have T2 come tune my car but i doubt id be able to quite the same deal even if we did get enough ppl together to split flying him up and gettting him a room. If youd like me to check with my tuner about getting u tuned, im sure he'll offer you the same price. I go to him with most of my questions and hes a real nice guy, especaily towards sum1 like me whos trying to learn as much as possible.

I was stating facts only and the info was for everyone's edification only. I am sorry if I came off as an ass. Emotions cannot be conveyed well online.

You are in a good mood today I guess, and yes we have agreed that the tune is very safe but too safe for some I guess.

You are going to need to tune for that intake. TOFU had an Injen and the car lost a lot of power. You will not get a CEL but the car will bog. The A/F ratio was off quite a bit. Too rich compared to commanded. This is where a custom tune is required. For everyone who wants to stay stock with a tune the Superchips tune is fine but for those who want to mod it is not the greatest option IMHO.
