oh hay random question time:

there is a heater deal thing near the oil filter. square in shape, oil and coolant lines run through it? wtf is it? is it to heat up the coolant or the oil? any reason to just... snip it off?

no chance of being able to slap a set of pistons in is there? i'd need new rods, yes? and at that point well i may as well sleeve the MF but i wanna be on the road in march
Definitely measure them. I'm just replying to your comment better safe than sorry. Pistons still fatigue and wear like all other internal parts. It's the chance you take pushing higher mileage parts. Just measure everything before you put it back together to make sure all is good before reassembling no matter which route you take. Stock rods can be reused as long as they look and measure ok.

ok update time

tonight we got the ole' crank out. my oem bearings all look perfect so we may just reuse them to ensure proper fitment, since we can't gauge them for clearances when reinstalled. but we'll see.

i got a dual pass endplate that was leaking a little bit if anyone wants same with a phenolic spacer that was NOT leaking

crank and head goes to machine shop tomorrow. keyways getting extended and the heads getting re-decked and cleaned.

think this next weekend motors going all back together, and hopefully back in the car the next

That's how it goes sometimes haha.

I have a build of my own starting soon......and there are always parts that you don't think of, or stuff you decide to upgrade while you are in there haha

I remember the thread, he posted pics of them all scuffed up, maybe you could machine them down and run oversized bearings.
