Thanks for the picture, you must of had to remove the steel sleeve that was inside the hole on the back (towards exhaust side) port?

Otherwise how is the oil leaving the oil filter housing?

Mine has a steel sleeve from the port straight through to the other side of the filter housing, blocking the normal oil passage out of the filter housing.

Actually from the picture I can't seem to see the steel sleeve on yours, on mine it is flush with the end of the block and you would be able to clearly see it. Unless you drilled it away when you drilled it to tap it.

Perhaps your motor didn't have this sleeve, mine is out of a 06' G6.

Found this quick pic online, since it was kinda hard to explain. I assumed all LE5's had this?

You can see the steel sleeve inside the port clearly in this pic.

Yes, I removed the steel sleeve then put it in the drill press. Some of the 2.4 blocks don't even have the holes drilled in the block from the factory which makes it nice, just removes a step.

Thanks.

I knew some didn't have it, my motor was not supposed to have an oil cooler when I bought it, but after driving 5 hours to the junkyard to pick it up, I wasn't going to go home empty handed.

I won't bother asking how you removed the sleeve, as everyone will start a bunch of drama about how I'm getting you to do my work for me.

I was just curious is all, although this has peaked my interest if it can infact be removed safely. Perhaps I might have to borrow my buddies threaded slide hammer.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I just welded a nut to the sleeve and used my slide hammer.

Welding the nut to the sleeve is advantageous because the sleeve will shrink slightly when it cools. Just wait til it cools and it should come out easy.

The engine isn't out. It is still running great. We just ran into some strange trans issues, plus we are waiting on a different clutch because this thing is probably going to make too much torque for the clutch that is in it.
