Compression test is a good idea, that engine didn't sound right when we cranked it. It sounded like my Ford Escort did after the timing belt broke

I'll be down in your neck of the woods again on Friday for dyno tuning you can borrow my compression gauge if you want.

i wont be able to get it back to you that day as ill be at work, but that would be much appreciated unless i can get it started lol, i got it all timed...so i know mechanicaly thats all good and such, im starting to think either no compression still (or not enough) or that it is the injectors/ plugs..im going to replace the plugs and redo the wiring harness without the butt connectors tonight and try again...if that doesnt work then compression test time

bump for any help

Don't worry too much about it. I doubt you messed anything up, timing is probably just off.

At the worst case scenario, you might have to get a tow to a shop. No biggie.

i took the whole thing apart and retimed it the hard way yest....

im thinking maybe fouled plugs or problem with injectors still...compression test just to make sure....hopefully one of the first two though...thats an easy tonight and get it running fix...
dyno numbers will have to wait though getting in to the stages of brokeness

soooo....0 compression on cyl 1...tested the tool on mels car and it works fine...no compression on mine, took all the plugs off and cranked it and no fuel spirted out, so i put on safety glasses and looked down while cranking - piston still moves which means no hydrolock. put the stock injectors back in to plug the hole (making sure its not leaking from the new injectors) and that isnt the prob.........

buddy who is a gm tech is coming over to take a look, but we are leaning towards internal damage...maybe bent valves.....but he has a spare motor i can work on if i absolutely have to...hopefully there is just something i missed...but maybe not

ur car will run on just 2 cylinders btw, so even if 2 were shot, it would run on just 2, i know mine ran one 2 for a good 70 miles before i got it fix'd

if the timing was wacked out though...and that caused 1 cylinders valves to bend..then its likely it happened to all of them...i didnt even bother testing the others after that

Take your valve cover off and take a picture of the cam gears with the marks on the side. If there right I trying to think what else could be off or wrong. If you didn't hear valve tapping your valves should be fine

i cant take a pic now...to late to be taking that apart and i have to work tomorrow...
the timing may be on now, but if it was off to begin with i may have already done the damage and bent hem just enough to be out of the way of the piston but still not seating and sealing

You got valves for the repair? I've got some quality stainless ones I could sell you, would work good for your application. Definitely sounds like a bent valve, sorry about the bad luck. It could always be worse though. While it's down, get the head ported and some stainless valves. That's what I would do, but you probably need your car sooner, and some R&R is probably more of what you are needing for now.

I've got a spare head and valves like I said, let me know if I can help.

well...good news is we know what the issue is...
bad news is at least one bent valve

so this weekend i will be pulling the head, at minimum i have to replace the valves and valve springs and retainers and roller rocker thingys lol. since i have to get the head milled while off im prob going to shave the head to get higher compression as well as the cometic head gasket since that will have to be replaced too...
basically im going to replace what i have to but im going to upgrade what i have to replace

i do have a motorcycle while this is down...so thats good

also, if its bad my buddy has an extra 2.2 he can sell me but that needs a good going through to be safe to run.

he is an ase cert gm tech and said he'll help me out...so thats GREAT.

i will never cheat while timing again

more updates to come.

ill let you all know when i get the head off what needs to be done exactly and then ill be looking for parts

sentry..i may take you up on that offer if needed

I doubt you'll need a new head, just throwing that out there. I've got a set of stock 2.2 valves, they're a bit dirty but they are straight and will work. Let me know, hell I'll give them to you, just pay shipping. Did you bend an intake valve or exhaust and how many?
