getting a paint job in march need ideas
For only $1500, you must know someone really, really well....
How long did the guy tell you it would take? Is he stripping the car down (bumpers, windows, rocker panels, etc..)? Have you seen his other work? What does he charge regularly for a custom paint job?
The reason I ask is that I caution you in trusting your car to just anyone... I got a price break on mine because I knew the guy and he wants to use my car as a demo for his work in the future... All said and done I will still pay around 3K. I also asked a couple of people on the forum that had custom paint jobs and they paid between 4-5K. On top of that this paint job will probably take about 6 weeks (my paint guy said that it can take up to 3 months to do a customized job)... You may also need to factor in the costs associated with dings, dents, and chips (down to the metal) as they can get pricey pretty fast....
Not to rain on the parade... if you can do this and get a guarantee from the guy then I still think it will be worthwhile to look into...

I thought you were going in the airforce? Are you even going to be around in March?
Also... if you are going to spend money on your car, why not fix the busted roller rocker in your motor that is making all that noise before it shatters completely and travels through your engine?
Just askin'

After reading this thread:

it's fairly obvious that this is the problem with Jon's car....

He replaced the roller follower and the sound went away, and then came back. He obviously had a broken part in there, but he thought it was a factory defect. Since it came back, he now thinks he has a bad valve spring, which caused the initial failure in the first place. When he replaced the roller follower he didn't replace the springs.
I think checking it out is better than just hoping it's ok. Everyone that has heard your car that knows about the ecotech (except the dealership) has said that something sounds wrong. Take it to Betley Chevy in Derry. Forget Macmulkin.
