Some people like the look others don't. That will never change. Flat black though comes with it's own challenges in terms of maintenance though. The two most common problems with flat black is that bird droppings stain it very easily. Even after you wash it off, you will still see the outline of where it is. The other problem is with water that has a lot of calcium or lime deposits in it, like from a sprinkler or from rain. Those deposits soak into the flat black and contaminate it. If you can deal with that, then flat black may not be a bad idea, but otherwise (from a professional's advice) I wouldn't do it.

I was just talking with someone about this.
If you go flat black...see if there's a way to do a two tone with it. With the black on the bottom half and a deep burgundy red on the top. Both flat. Dunno how it would look or if you can even get a red in flat. *shrug* Just a consideration.

Any color can be made flat. Again there is no such thing as semi gloss automotive paint. I have managed a collision center for the past 5 years. What you are thinking of is what is known as a "matting agent." Any color can be made flat by putting a matting agent into the clear coat. When you do this, you can still spray a clear coat over the color which usually makes it glossy, but the matting agent added into the clear negates the gloss thus making it flat.

#1 reason not to paint it flat black: It will KILL resale value! Unless you intend to keep your flat-black Cobalt until it falls apart it's not a good idea.
That would all change if you become famous, of course. then it will be worth more
