My spare trans is being worked on right now. Shep is changing the preloads (tighter clearances) for now and we're going to see how it does. I had another stocker go out and he had my spare so we're giving this a shot. No upgraded gear set yet, but ZZP had good luck with the different preloads so i'll let you guys know how it goes.

The word is i'll never get 10 people to put deposits down for these gear sets and tighter preloads.

What's the deposit? What does the company need? Are they still willing to do this? How long would it take them?

Its all in the OP.

They would do it, yes. I still need ten people to commit to it and that won't ever happen in this lifetime

no the problem is you won't necessarily get 10 people to commit from this site or at the same time. I'm pretty sure that at least 10 people would by this for that trans at some point for what ever application.

I only ever had one person tell me he would for sure, but no deposit was given.

Look at how well ZZP is doing with their tighter preloads alone. Now take that and add to it stronger gears and the answer should speak for itself. I had John making me custom billet crush collars for the gears to shim them. The way they are shimmed from factory is horrible in his opinion.

The difference is that ZZP didn't ask anyone if that's what they wanted... and then took deposits to come up with a finished product. They came out and said, "Hey fgts, look what we did. This sunofabitch runs 10's on our transmission."

As I've said numerous times in this thread... John can do that in the DSM/Evo world, as he's a household name to them. Here, its not gonna fly. Too many people have been screwed by vendors doing this. The first twinscrew deal was the first big one, iirc. 10 people put a $1,000 deposit on Twinscrew S/C kits, iirc. I believe only 1 kit was ever delivered... and no one got a refund.

I'm interested for sure. But I'm not crazy enough to put up a deposit and then wait for 8 or 9 more people. Not on this forum. Not in this community.

well from what Terry and I discussed previously is that none of the deposits would be put up until after everyone dedicated themselves to it. The deposit would be placed and the trans would be shipped in to Sheps shop.

If I had the cash, I would call Shep, pay for all 10 sets and then after they were complete. I would use them, and show the capabilities. Then maybe it would take off... IDK though, As I stated previously Shep does amazing work on transmissions, just wish this forum could handle that.

Sure you can play with ratios all day with anything and make it faster, but your not understanding how expensive that is. You can't just ask for a custom set either your best bet is to change your final drive to something you like.

Not everybody wants the same ratios so we'll most likely not change them because we would never get everybody to agree on it.

You are exactly correct. The ideal situation would to be in contact with everyone until we have 10-12 willing to make deposits, the more the better, then send it all at once to get the ball rolling. That way the first ten trannies could be done around the same times

my only fear which im sure everyone has is. we all put money down install and it breaks. its a tough choice. thats like saying 2 cobalts both make 35o whp same trannys one breaks they other has been going strong for years. its just hard to tell what ur getting.

i just want to know if its really worth it

If you are worried about breaking it then you probably dont need it.

If you need it, then you know that everything breaks and your buying the best to keep you in the game when it counts.

This is an expensive game to play and if you are going to race and compete then you go in with the hope that everything holds and the understanding that something has to give. I would rather pay the money and have a very strong transmission built by one of the best in the business and know that it will do almost everything Ill ever need it to do than keep using the stock that I know blows apart easily.

Like I said before... not everyone knows who John Shep is, so there will be skepticism towards its effectiveness.

Just by what you said, why purchase anything? why buy a car, one works very well the next could possibly fail, why mod your car, just because one car worked great with it, it could break on yours

you never know what your going to get? you do it because its better than what you had.
