So from what I understand, the Dryflow is arguably the best choice for a filter for many reasons.
But comparing it to the Spectra, it seems like the Spectra would allow a greater air flow... since it is opened up in the center, giving it more surface area to draw in air.
Does this give a filter like the Spectra an advantage over the Dryflow? Or does it make any difference at all?

You may be correct. What ss/sc drivers learned early on was the pre-oiled filters would almost imediatelycontaminate the MAF sensor and throw a check engine light. One could remedy this by pre-washing the pre-oiled filter, or purchase a no hassle AEM dryflow.
it's been like....4 days since i put on my Spectre and still no check-engine...am i in the clear, or should i rip it off and wash it? and also, what happens if the check engine does come on? is taht a fix you can do yourself, or need to take to the dealer?
well if you have no light then leave it alone. It would be great if you were forsure in the clear, who knows, maybe you are. If the c e l does come on, in my experience, it will diappear after a few days. Its a lean code but that doesn't mean your engine is unsafe. The ecm picked up that signal and stored it , now the light is on and should go off on its own.
Hey, did you have to cut the airbox at all to get the filter up there? your airbox looks alot different than mine, i drive the 06 SC and my airbox is really deep, do you think i could possibly just cut the airbox and use the stock fitting inside the airbox and throw the cone right up on the fitting?
i have an 06 SC also. the bottom of the airbox is attached by 4 phillips head screws. once you unscrew those the bottom just comes off, and you can throw it in the trash or store it in your garage. i used the spectre cone filter, the fitting rings they give you...none of them fit. so you have to do what he says...shave off the outter lip of the 3" until they all go on snuggly.
I've had the Spectre for about 2k miles now and had two CEL's.
First time was at about 600 miles or so... second time was around 1500. Both went off on their own after a day or two of driving.
Right out of the package, you could definitely smell all the oil in the filter. I could even smell it just standing around my car after it was installed. Took about two weeks for it to go away... but then that just makes me think, where did all that oil go?
My poor MAF...
I have a Dryflow sitting next to me, going on the car asap.

oh alright, so you just shave down the edges some and then the rubber fitting should juslt slide right on there, i didnt catch that in the reading, too caught up in the excitement of yet another great, but cheap mod lol, what Spectre filter did you ues though? i went to Autozone today and there is like 6 kinds! lol
The 8132 (Red), 8136 (Blue), and 8138 (White) are the same filter, just different colors.
Oh and by the way, I mentioned a few posts above that my Spectre had given me 2 CEL's.... well make that 3, as of yesterday.
Hopefully the Dryflow is going on tomorrow!
