So, any track time updates?

Can't wait to try out the pill mod @ the track tomorrow assuming I don't get rained out.

Also do ANY of you personally know any moderators on this site? I wrote a huge how-to with 696969 pictures on fixing oil leaks for the 08+ Cobalts. Very annoyed that tons of great threas like how to add halos around your headlights make the cut, but not mine. At this point I'd love to just get a copy/paste of the hour long post I wrote so I can put it on another section of the site.

Really DON'T want to re-type it. I've posted a couple places asking for mod help and even PM'd a couple moderators.

Well, the air was thick tonight. The track was cold, thanks to a couple early breaks, but when I finally started hooking, I got a couple decent passes in. I got a new personal best of 13.051, as opposed to my previous PB of 13.081, lol. STILL not in the 12's. I can't flippin believe it. BUT, the humidity had to have been about 90%, because they closed the races down about 1am thanks to the fog, and the fact you couldn't even see the sign at the end of the track.

BUT, I did get 15 runs in on test and tune, and 5 additional run in on Midnight Mayhem. There were a ton of Balts there too. Tons of choads (hope no one here had one) in tc's, and Blur, from here.

well I'm sure there won't be tons of balts at Cedar Falls but barring rain I'll be there and I predict traps of 101 and times of 14.3's....... I'm so slow

I wish that air would have been better. Or, if the track would have stuck better, I could have run more tire pressure and picked up a couple mph.

light'bolt, I'll be up there tonight. Leaving here like 6:30ish I think so should be there @ open. I guess the morning/afternoon session got rained out from what I'm told. If you hear about the night session getting rained out let me know ASAP

Do you guys have 93 octane up there? I'm running scared now after doing the pill. My car audibly knocked HARD about an hour ago and backfired from pulling so much timing. Honestly I should pull the plugs and look, but I'm scared. Like enough that my wife even asked wtf was that. That was on the stock timing tables even. The amusing part is the RPD still said 0* KR What a useless piece of **** that RPD is.

Going to richen it up and see if that helps, but I'm not sure the extra boost is worth it if I can't control knock any other way than running fat and no timing.

Try some race gas. It REALLY helped me last night. Also, I was running into a good bit of knock on my MBC with 93 octane. I wasn't running my MBC last night, but was running about 20* of timing.

I hate posting two places, kinda annoying I'm sure. I did find some 93 here in town finally off the tip from a local Z06 owner. 15 mile drive to get it, but oh well... seems to have calmed my car down a bit. Lucky for me I actually work not far from that station, so its now my new best friend.

I could see the MBC being similar to this restrictor in reguards to knock. You're going to make the turbo spool a lot faster with either and this car seems really touchy to tip-in/burst knock as it is. We need more control over accel enrich and other stuff really. That pill is pretty much making the turbo hit 26+ PSI (not sure how much really, the RPD quits showing heh) instantly.

Well I had a good time, and always nice to see another Cobalt show up.

Ran a best of 13.398 @ 108.13 and then later a 13.497 @ 107.71 against light'bolt. Who I won't forget the name of again I think Bud has me talked into trying meth. I ran those traps on 11* of timing. Anything more and the knock just went karayzee. Racegas would fix it too I guess, but that gets expensive

Those were the best 60' of my night and on the 108 pass I finally got into 4th a little bit before crossing the trap. Next year, ... I think I'll be on slicks. Frustrating knowing you could be making 12 second passes. Think I'm also going to look into those OTTP mounts. The hop was so bad I had to keep getting in/out of it. Didn't want to shell an axle 150 miles from home.

It was nice to see another balt there at CFR. I heard the anouncer say it was the battle of the red Cobalts...lol. You've got one quick car Andrew, after the 60' mark you were gone and all I could do was wish I was turbo'd....

I've got to figure out why I'm so slow this year when I was pulling 13.9's last year with a slightly higher trap speed. The biggest change this year was an intake, I'm putting the stock one back on and will test it on Oct 11th at tri-state for the Sport Compact test and tune. I hope that's not it cause I really like the sound of the supercharger with this intake...

I'm pretty sure you were running 13.9's against my old V6 swapped MR2 at Earlville long ago. Hopefully your intake fixes it, even if the sounds isnt as nice

Buddy that I came up with in the Cobra ended up taking the $100 fastest domestic prize hehe.

I am from Dubuque. Work in Ames, drive back every weekend. Noticed one thing w/ all the highway miles, everyone pulls up next to you and slows down wanting to race (because of the car). But I've never had anything faster than a 16 sec car try this or a 1 ton work truck, so I usually don't bother.

Car: 2006 SS S/C All Stock

Havn't read the entire thread but it looks like there are quite a few people in my area. I would like to run Earlville sometime, send some info. my way.

Thanks

Thats funny, I have the opposite problem... nobody ever wants to highway roll with me which is a shame because this car is good at it.

Sunday they are having a Sport Compact and the GTP/SuperCoupe clash. I'll be there one last time for the year, then the snow will come and the car will have to rest.....

Yah I saw that! My cousin out in Denver got a blizzard about 2 wks ago already. Very bogus.

I jacked up the Cobalt last weekend and scrubbed the undercarriage, wheel wells, engine bay etc real good and put it under a cover in the garage. With all the autoX's pretty much done and the tracks closing the toys are done for the year didnt see the point. Trying to keep the miles low on it too, only has 5900 on it after 8mo of ownership.

Really need a clutch before I can go much further on the Cobalt and I had to dump like 1200 into my winter beater Nissan truck in the past week needed new front axles, tie rods, tires and some other crap. So there went my clutch money for now.

Really considering tossing a bigger snail on the Cobalt this Winter/Spring too. More than anything I tire of this internal WG. Thinking along the lines of a 3076. Here's hoping HPT makes some breakthroughs for us this winter

Yeah... tomorrow is gonna be tune up day for me on the winter car...

Oh, and my buddy backed my other buddy's brand new car up into the side of my balt. Put a nice scratch and paint transfer all down the side of my car. Did a total of $1150 in damage. Of course, he's paying for it, but I don't want to be seen running around town with a white scratch down the side of my car. And my balts rear brakes are gone.

speaking of snow, i just learned from tirerack that the OE tires are not applicable for snow ratings anyone try using them over the winter? Im thinking about getting an all season high performance tire on black alloys and putting the OE's back on when i sell the car in 1.5 years when my certified used powertrain warranty is up. im assuming the black painted alloys would hold up to the salt... hmmmm

Well... what model do you have??

The SS-tc OE tires are decent actually. I used them most of all last winter, in up to about 3" of snow. They sucked, but it wasn't too scary. I definitely wouldn't want to drive in more than that though, as the bumper would become a snow plow.
