i did not ever see jay tell anybody to not mod their car and buy a V8 instead... i saw him tell someone that the money they are going to put into a LT to make it anywhere near as fast as an SS, they are better off just trading it in on an SS...

And for the record, had I saw the post before Jay... I would've said the same thing.

There are many people on this forum ( not just here ) that think as soon as something is said that is not related to "you're car is the shiznit" that it is a derrogatory comment towards YOU. It's not. It's a fact.

If you want something that "performs", you should do your homework before you buy. Yes... a base model Cobalt/Ion can be made fast... but you're talking ALOT of money, engineering and time and then even more when the "weak links" on the care start rearing their ugly little heads.

That said... it's no different for ANYONE'S car. There's always someone/something faster.

We're car guys... we talk smack about other cars. That doesn't mean we're talking DOWN at you or your friend's cars...

Besides... one thing I noticed that the person this comment was said to hasn't posted a rebuttle about this... that tells me that either they are not concerned about what others think ( as most normal people should be ), or they are not wanting to stir the pot.

Last time I checked... we're all adults here, and shouldn't have the need to have others defend us or fight our battles. If that person can't or don't post about it... no one else should.

That's the last I say on this topic. If anyone feels the need to banter about this topic, they should do so PRIVATELY between themselves so the rest of us can enjoy this escape from the real world.

 

 

What got me was, no one said anything about making their 2.2 as fast as an SS. A couple of us commented about making some mods, that was it. Right away, the standard "sell it, it's not worth it" comes out. I could understand such a remark if the topic had been making a 2.2 run 12's or some such, but it wasn't.

Either way, Jay and I took it to PM's and as far as I know, got it straightened out. So, like Dan said, let's get back to doing what we do best.

 

Brian, I respect your attitude towards others and how you try to keep things civil. However, I wasn't just defending Mike there. I'm not the only one that feels this way either.

The point is not whether or not a Cobalt LS/LT is slow. The point is telling someone that they shouldn't waste their money modding ANYTHING on the car. What if the point of modding the car isn't to put down a 12.8s 1/4 mile slip? What if I were to completely scrap the turbo project and go with an all-show list of mods? Is that a bad idea because of the price of the car? The reputation of the car? The motor that's in it? What if I just wanted to add a few modifications to make my daily commute more enjoyable rather than try to build a track monster? It's my perrogative. It's also anybody else's decision when it comes to their car. I, for one, am not about to let people start discouraging others from modifying a car at all, let alone when it happens on a forum pertaining to said car.

While the comments earlier weren't directed at me personally, they were posted in this thread in public view. If I weren't meant to read them and respond to them, then they shouldn't have been posted. Keep them to yourself, send them in a PM, write a letter and mail it from your local Post Office for all I care... but if you post it in public view on a web forum where I'm actively participating, I'm going to read it and I will respond if I have anything to discuss on the topic.

And this type of argument/useless banter is exactly why I said that I'm sick of opening this thread and reading nothing but underhanded insults and little jabs. Some teasing and trash talking is always welcomed by the seasoned sportsman... but constant bickering and insults gets under people's skin. When that happens, you start to get a lot of irritated, short-fused people.



PS. Matt... I was talking in Forza. For some reason the voice chat was messed up on Forza last night. It wouldn't work for me, Dave, or Dan all night. I couldn't hear anything anyone was saying, and no one could hear me either. Only my private chat channels worked. Same held true for Dave and Dan.

That's REALLY weird, everything worked fine for me as well as Matt. Might also explain why in a game of 8 people Matt and I were usually the only ones talking. Very very strange. Did you check your settings and make sure nothing was changed? I've had that happen on other games before where I was playing and chatting away and no one else on the game could hear me. Somehow my settings had gotten switched and disabled the in-game voice stuff.

I would honesltly leave mean 330 ish. Parkway gets really clogged from Robinson. Gates open at 530. So you will have plenty of time.
