lutz said that his camaro would be faster than the mustang and that if needed he had the LS7 to pull out. but I doubt that would happen... may inplace of a FI camaro though.

GM can make all the different engines in it that it wants. But truth of the matter is, if they dont make the entry level one a smash hit - the camaro will be as short lived as the pontiac GT - er uh i mean....

I am the exact same way with Transformers. That was my fav. cartoon and action figures when i was younger. I really have no opinion about Bay but after this one - he is tops in my book. Although, lest we forget that Spielberg was in the shadows as well im sure. When i first saw the preview last year that showed the mars rover and the 2 second transmission and then the logo came up on the screen i was like ZOMG! Its gonna be a blockbuster.

gto was only slated to be a three year run. you do realize the monaro has been around since 2001. the platform was due for an update, hence why the gto was canceled.
the GTO accomplished exactly what they set out for it. rear wheel drive performance.
for a $35k car with no options or cheaper entry level, it did damn good for its niche market. so making the comment you made, shows you did not research this topic too well.
if the GTO bombed, the G8, Camaro, Impala, and yes the new 2010 GTO would not be a reality, all of which are on their way.

GM had to add a third shift at the holden plant just to produce the GTO, and trade agreements only allowed a max of 15k cars per year
fun fact. the camaro in the movie was actually a GTO with a reskinned body, thanks to Steve Saleen

Was all that supposed to be quoted from a GM spokesperson? Anyways, bottom line is that the GTO only survived for 3 years. It was purpose built. But as you said, it was only slated for 3 years. I think GM knew after the 2nd year sales that it made a good decision to not to drag production on as they did with the last gen F-body. I really feel that it will come down to how good a car the entry level car is. It has to be fun and affordable.

You should've seen the look of the guys @ the dealer when I pulled in last night. Had all the Autocrossing stickers on the car..... Made for good conversation.
My tech bought an 07 and has the stage 2 on it and was asking me all kinds of questions about what everyone is doing to their cars. I told him he needs to talk to you guys.. not me.

they made a few mistakes, which were corrected with the G8
the F-body got **** canned because its windshield, and firewall setup would not pass 2003 crash test revision standards for new production vehicles. As well as the St.Therese plant shutting down, and not enough time to retool for a new model elsewhere.

Mustangs outsold BOTH the F-bodies COMBINED.
PLUS... just as the insight of DCX at the time, they felt the 2-door car market of that size was dead. Even the Mustang at the time wasn't selling what it was.
Hence why the Charger was not offered in 2Dr ( on of the reasons, anyway ). Now, after seeing the redone Stang, DCX said "WTF... We need something like that! "
As always... GM is playing catchup again, but on a longer time-table than before.

The mustang has always outsold the Camaro/Firebird, ever since the 60s, Because it has a model that can appeal to everyone
But heres a fact you didnt know. The Camaro/Firebird had sold more V8 models in % comparison than the Mustang did vs it's V6 counterpart.
The Mustang would sell 4 V6's to 1 V8, or 6 GT's to 1 Cobra (94-04 models)
The Camaro/Firebird sold 1.5:1 V8:V6
V6 (women, people who arent concerned about real performance, you lol
)
GT (gearhead, wants more get up and go)
Cobra/GT500 (enthusiast)
Plethora of misc options:
Stereo options
interior lighting packages (ambient and gauge)
Various wheel options
Factory performance upgrades (GM could only go through SLP and even then its the $33,000+ SS package)
GM has a lot of catching up to do, but with this new Camaro, I bet they hit a homerun with it, as long as its powerful

You could have a field day hunting down all the vtecs out at Westmoreland Mall. All I saw was Nismo stickers and giant cans sticking out of half painted body kits. 2nd gear the whole way down the show. O Yeah! Tranformers kicks ass!
