i'm having a reallllllly hard time deciding between the BFGoodrich g-Force Super Sport A/S or the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position tires for my car in a 225/40ZR18. I have decided that I can't get a tire that is a summer only tire, so I will have to compromise with an ultra high performance all season tire.

The BFG's are about $35 bucks cheaper per tire, and I like that, and also they got better handling reviews. Some people said the Potenza's were a little soft in the corners...

I realllllly want traction and handling, and soo long as it will go good in rain, and kinda go in the snow I will be happy. Either of these will be better than the stock Pirelli's right? Bc we all know those kinda sucked...

Advice please!

Always liked the Potenzas myself and looking at TireRack's testing, the Potenzas blow the Super Sports out of the water in a lot of categories. They also say that the Potenzas are the better snow and ice tire. I had an earlier version of the 960s and loved them to death, I have no problems recommending them.

You're not going to get "performance" grade handling out of either of those choices, mind you so you're going to have to lower your standards a little bit.

Will the handling AT LEAST be better than the stock tires...? I have springs now and a MRZ strut bar. The TTR rear sway bar is on order. I like the way the car feels now, but the stock tires squeal and get a little squirrelly in the tight turns. Will either of those tires help out..? I am going to be running these tires year round until they wear and need replaced...

Actually, the Rossos are good tires and really only fall of when they are near the end of their life. They seem to get "greasy". And no, neither of those 2 all season tires will handle like the rossos. You will roll over on the sholder of the tire much more on the all seasons. You may be countering that a little bit with a wider tire, but it will still be evident.

The all seasons might be a little better in the snow, but anything over an inch on the ground and it still wont matter. All that being said, between the 2 you listed, i would go with the Bridgestone's.

EDIT - another tire you may want to look at would be the Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season. I know Jon had them on his Redline and loved them to death. They are a nice compromise of price and performance.

^^^ Thanks for the input. TireRack reviews listed the Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season tires poor in comparison to both the Bridgestone's or BFGoodrich's... That is why I was not going to consider them. Will anything exceed the stock Rosso's? I always thought the stock tires had sub-par traction and wheelspin'ed too much from a launch. What tires can anybody recommend that exceed the stock tires? Can any of these tires be used in the extreme cold?.. The car will never see anymore than a dusting of snow, as I have a truck I can drive... I just need to find a tire that will do OK in the cold weather, as I do not intend on buying multiple sets of tires for different seasons. If I can get away with running a tire that is NOT an all season, I would love to hear which one. Thanks!

Do you have an LSD? There are many other performance tires that will exceed the rossos, but those are apples and you are buying oranges. No matter what you purchase, the best you will do is get a red orange . I think the Potenzas you have listed will work the best for you.

Hell no. You want year round tires. You are not going to find year-round tires that outperform the stock tires AND can be used in the snow. What you're looking for doesn't exist, sorry to burst your bubble.

Yes, lots of tires will exceed the stock Rossos. NO they cannot be used in the snow. Or even in the cold.

What makes a performance tire and performance tire is exactly the same thing that makes them perform horribly in the snow. You have to have a soft, sticky compound to handle well and a soft, sticky compound turns to marbles when it gets cold. If you harden up the compound to withstand the cold, you sacrifice the performance.

Honestly, with what you're looking for out of a tire, you need to buy a performance tire and be willing to leave the car parked when November hits and bring it back out in April if you're not willing to run 2 sets of tires. You can't have your cake and eat it too in this case.

Ditto what Tim said, the Potenzas are the best pick given your criteria. They'll handle snow and cold, but don't expect them to handle anywhere close to the Rossos (which, like Tim said in his other post, are not half bad performance tires).

****, who knew tires could be soo complicated... The previous cars I have had, have not been as "performance oriented" as the SS/SC, so there was never really a problem...

I ran the car stock when I bought it on Dec 20th 2007 until spring this year... It went just fine when it was cold, but got quite slippery when it snowed...

I guess I will just have to settle for UHP all seasons... And yes, I do have G85 w/ LSD...

I run the 18 inch P-Zero Nero MS's in the summer, but not in the winter. I stick with dedicated snow tires in the winter.

That's kinda my problem.. I traded my stock 17's with 2 good tires for a set of 16's with 4 good tires, but the tires apparently blow in the winter..

Again, anyone interested in the 16's as a back-up set/track set? I'll take cash or trades.. 16" Sport Edition F7's with Hankook K106's..

If no-one wants them it's not a big deal, but I'd like the extra cash for my vacation in a few weeks..

Thanks for the input. I guess I will try the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS in a 225/40ZR18 and hope it fits nice being lowered. Hopefully it will satisfy the traction and handling of the car I have been used to... If anyone is interested, I will post something up after I get them for a mini-review... It will be a little while before I buy.

The all-season KDWs never really impressed me all that much to begin with, but yes, I've heard nothing but good things about the RE960s.

YES! Tim... Now that I think of it, I think he told me that the biz card was messed up and the fax # was actually the phone #...

So... spent the evening with the Z06 last night. Holy crap I'm going to get into trouble with it... I know it.

That thing has SOOO much torque in any gear.... I thought I was in 3rd, but was in 5th and @ 30 MPH it pulled like it was 3rd.
6th gear @ 65 cruising @ 1500 RPMs and it was very eary to just let the car get away from you. the HUD started clicking off #'s and I was @ 75 before I blinked...

Was going to ask if it would be making an appearance!

I'll be at the hospital most of the day on Saturday, but hopefully I can sneak away for a little bit.

Torque is overrated below 3200 rpm and after 4000 rpm. J/K.
