don't shoot centerset so much, focus on the general rule of thirds; then once you get comfortable you can start looking into real composition (like high center, direction etc)
And it kind of looks like you put the slr on auto and shot..play around with your manual settings. You don't need to go full manual right away, but do some reading on what the general terms actually mean/do (iso, aperture, shutter speed)

and remember the general rule of thumb when anyone is buying their first slr: Your first 10,000 pictures ALL SUCK.

well i think im going to do it and buy the Nikon D3100. going on a trip next summer,so i think after christmas or as a christmas present for myself,im going to buy it. ive been thinking about it for so long now and ive posted in here a time or 2 so FFF it. im just going to do it!

is there anytthing i should know/tip/advice on using this thing?im not a good photgrapher, hell,im prbably not even considered a beginner lol ive watched quiet a few videos on it and how to use it/set it up.

and how do these cameras work in colder weather? i plan on taking it out into the cold,if it can handle it.

D5100 might offer more and not much of a price change.

well i completely forgot i asked my friend if she would sell me her 3100,i texted her today asking if she still wanted to sell it or not. it comes with a 55-200 lense, bag and some other things,i may wait and see if she wants to sell it still. she told me she used it for a photography class but didnt use it that much.

i guess i will wait and see if she will sell it,if not,ill look into the d3200 or the d3100.

Im not an expert on this stuff so dont take wat i say as if its from a pro but if i were in ur shoes. Id see how much she wants for it. If u can get a d3100 with some accessories for like 350$ or less id say thats a pretty damn good deal and i personally would more than likely take it. From what ive read. The d3100 takes more than good enough photos for a beginner but u WILL eventually end up wanting an upgrade if u continue the hobbie and get serious with it. Im looking at the d3200 myself because im looking into getting into te hobbie and its better than the d3100. My personality curses me to want the best. For example i literally just got my gopro hero 2 in February and the gopro hero 3 just came out and now i probably wont even touch mu hero 2 because of how huge the difference is between the two cameras. But again. I am no expert so wait for some more professional opinions before taking mine

im waiting to hear back from her. i texted her and asked her about it,but,it turns out she dont have the 55-200 lense, she just has the one that came with it. i will prolly see her this weekend and see if she wants to sell it or not.

if she for whatever reason dont want to sell it,i will just look into buying a brand new d3100-3200.

i hear what your saying about the gopro deal. same thing happend to me!! i bought the original gopro hero and like 2 days later the hero 2 came out lol

I use a t3i as well bud! Trust me, the body makes a difference, sure, but so long as it's cropped sensor, it will be able to take great shots just like any other cropped sensor, and then you get into professional full frames..but yeah, as I was trying to say, it's all about your lens arsenal-they are what makes the most difference.

Your first buy should be the 129$ 50mm.
