I see Nikon has an 18-300mm f/3.5 - 5.6 out now that is purrrdddy and only $1k.
That would replace my kit + my zoom lens in one shot... Temptation!!
But I think I'll buy a flash instead and maybe Nikon's 50mm f/1.8G. Still want the Sigma 12-24 but waiting a while.

Just for reference:
AF or AF-D lenses will only auto focus on Nikon bodies that have a built in AF motor. D90, D80, etc.
Those lenses don't have a built in motor, which makes them substantially cheaper.
D5100 doesn't have a built in motor, therefore only manual focus is available with those lenses on that body.
Opposite everything with AF-S.
