ive seen any cars with a paint job, and the overspray on the exhaust. thats all i can picture ur cal looking like with a painted exhaust.

But if you must.

Clean it with degreaser/detergent to get the carbon off and anything else (not a caustic one or it will eat away at your tip)
sand it with a higher grit sandpaper like a 220, do not scrape it, sand it
paint with high temp
wet sand 1500
clear with high temp
wet sand 1500
call it a day.

I have paint my exhaust before 10 months. Powder-coating is the best method for painting tips, tips take a lot of abuse and paint cannot hold up to it. You can also try header paint. it would hold up to the heat and definitely be a flat black.

THIS is what iv been missing! Doh! haha all this time iv been trying to scrub all the black thats on my tip off and polish it back after i neglected it too long. instead i should of got some paint for that biotch! do they make high temp cammo? lol
