Ok just figure out the solution. I just compressed both of them really hard a few times and now they extend exactly the same at 1 turn from soft.

Try out the "settings" yourself and dial it in to your driving.

There is no "best" setting for any type of suspension as every ones driving style and car is different. Finding what feels the best to you is the best in my opinion, some racers might not agree

What did i do wrong? I measured the top of the front insert to the center of the bumps and got 46mm and then subtracted 7mm (the directions said 6) and I double checked but when i went to put them in, the bumps just touched the strut they never got pulled in and its all the way to the bottom. The struts were new TC struts..

Even went back and measured the part i cut off and it all checks out

The directions are a little off, unfortunately. You can cut a couple millimeters off the bottom where the bolt threads in. That will pull the insert down farther.

Even the How-to says to subtract 7mm but they had 64mm to the bumps...

Should i measure the total length of the old ones and compare it to the insert ones? or does length not matter too much (I have no knowledge of suspension yet)

I'm not really sure what that would accomplish if the strut bodies have already been cut.

The strut bodies will expand over time and allow movement and start clunking anyways.

Yeah, I messed one up on mine too. I ended up getting a new strut and cutting it like 10mm less than suggested. If it goes a little over the stop as long as it doesn't hit the lip you're good.

that strut is ruined. the insert must fit completely in the housing with the bumps in the insert well inside; if not it will rattle and give issues. Properly installed the insert does NOT expand the strut housing in my experience. But even well regarded KONI shops read the Koni instructions and do it wrong, and cut the housings down too much. Folks dont loctite the lower bolt and anyway Koni supply unplated crap hardware that rusts, so best replace that with a 10.9 grade plated bolt. stainless wont work its no better than junk hardware grade 5.

I am sad that so many folks get gulled into wrecking the strut housing by cutting it off way too short. sad deal. shame on Koni for poor instructions.

wangspeed has tons of miles on his inserts on track no issues.

I'm starting to think my passanger side koni is what's making the clunking noise I hear. I'm going to have to take a closer look at it.

then I will redo them, but subtract 10-12mm just to make sure

and is it just me or does the inserts seem to be a lot longer than the stock and would that cause any problems down the road if you put your car on a lift without the wheels supported like with CV joints and what not?

@Powell, how many millimeters do you typically subtract from the strut when doing the inserts?

It sucks that robertmichaels followed the directions and still came up short with the measurements. From what I read on the how-to's they said 6-7mm as mentioned before.

lol I agree with you and I checked with Fabi yesterday and we agreed we cant remember and didnt write it down. I will fix that when I build the next set in a couple of weeks... but we did find a set that Koni expert shop in cali did and it was cut too short. instructions suck lol. kinda like the Eibach "cut the bump stops" koolaid.

I can't get it to make any noise by hand I was going to go with the Powergrid endlinks first since I want them anyways.

I cannot get one of my brand new rear koni yellows to adjust. One of them is fine. It stopped at full soft and I backed off one full turn. The other just spins and spins never catching. Anything I should try or is it no good? Is this common? Also, both shocks say "not adjustable." Any ideas?

How long have you had them? My fronts started leaking after about a year. Maybe I just got a bad set.

I only run the rear shocks with SS/TC struts, springs, and powell harcore bar.

I've had them for around 2 months so far, lol.

Ask 07MetallicSC, I believe he ran Koni struts and shocks for years w/o any problems.
