nice kill op. you do have a pretty fast car. Unfortunately you do not have a z06 killer. winning a race by 2 cars when you jump the other person and he starts way out of his powerband say 2900 rpm (especially in a h/c ls6 car that doesn't come on strong till about 4800 rpm) isn't all that impressive. Id say if the z06 started in the correct gear (which would keep him in the 5000-7000 rpm range) you would lose 10 out of every 10 races. Oh and as far as a 400lb weight advantage to the cobalt, it's more like 150lbs at best.

I don't have a Cobalt, I have an Ion. The factory weight of my car as indicated is 2,776lbs. Last I checked his Vette was about 3200. And what is this deal with the powerband thing? So me starting in 3rd at about 3000rpm doesn't mean **** either? We all know the blower doesn't really start to come to life until about 4000rpm anyhow. Hell you saw the first race with both of us in second at 50. I roasted the tires off and still sat next to him until the clutch slipped on the 2-3 upshift.

curb weight of the ion should be about 2962lbs.
curb weight of the zo6 should be about 3115lbs.

can we just get a video of both cars in their best gear? the vette starting in 3rd is giving you a handicap. just because both cars start in 3rd doesn't mean it's a fair race. THEY ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CARS! if it was two ion's it would be different. but it's not. if the best launch you can manage is in 3rd gear than so be it. it's definitely not the best for the z06. it's a shame, cause you do have a fast car. it's just can't beat that zo6, YET. and you lost some respect in the process.

Dude your spraying for one thing thats going to get you in the higher rpms quicker. Also when the hell did a roots style blower not kick in or "come to life" until 4k rpm? They almost make full boost off of idle. You act as if you have a centri blower.

The Vette is a 6pd and completly geared different, 3rd in your car and 3rd in a Vette is totally different.

And if the Vette and the Saturn both start in the same gear, at the same speed, and are able to go to the same speed in the same gear...then wouldn't you consider that a pretty even race?
no.

if you're having a "race", then why the hell wouldn't both cars start out in their best gear?

just cause he's in 3rd gear at say 4k rpms the Vettes 3rd gear would probably be at 3k and why would he do that if he was really racing???

good call on the gear settings, just lets us know the Vette wasnt really racing and let you think he was....

That's my car stock, but tweaked with HPT chief. Good try though. Here's my post from "the other" forum about three months ago:

So a couple of us decided against nature to head to PRP today. It was BEAUTIFUL weather, a little on the hot side though (My IATs were around 120 even during the runs). We all pretty much got 5 runs in within 2 hours. I'm finally getting the launch down on this set up, but it's still not where I'd like it. Traps are getting higher and higher though, the past few weeks of screwing around with HP Tuners has really started to pay off. I've taken my 3rd gear rev limiter to 7300rpm to allow me to cross the traps in 3rd.

Mods are as follows:
Intense 2.8" pulley and hub
Custom made 3" cold air intake
Siemens "60s"
Pacesetter header (in my opinion, this is what makes all the difference)
235/45R17 Dunlop SP8000 tires all around
B+G springs
HP Tuners Pro
Gutted cat
Stock cat-back exhaust
Stock heat exchanger
~17psi

Run 1 - 1st gear boost cut to 60% across the board, no water for my burnout
R/T : 0.1481
60' : 2.3859
1/8 : 9.3765 @ 81.36
1/4 : 13.9942 @ 108.91

Run 2 - 1st gear boost ramps from 55% at 4k to 80% at 7k
R/T : -0.0073 (oops)
60' : 2.3255
1/8 : 9.2543 @ 84.00
1/4 : 13.8784 @ 107.84

Run 3 - 1st gear starts at 70% and makes it's way to 100%, not so good haha. Also I missed the 2nd to 3rd upshift and for (according to HP Tuners) 0.733 seconds I was off the gas pedal haha.
R/T : 0.2475
60' : 2.3184
1/8 : 9.4359 @ 78.77
1/4 : 14.2487 @ 105.14

Run 4 - 1st gear boost is set at 55% and makes it's way to 80%, not enough. Though I was really happy with the smooth shifting I made on this run. It helped the back half A LOT. Super happy with that trap speed.
R/T : 0.1964
60' : 2.3141
1/8 : 9.0536 @ 84.67
1/4: 13.6853 @ 109.33

Run 5 - 1st gear is at 55% to 100%, almost perfect. I wheelhopped the whole way through 1st and still managed to pull off the best 60' of my day. I wish we got more runs in.
R/T : .1210
60' : 2.2262
1/8 : 9.0375 @ 84.38
1/4 : 13.6416 @ 108.46

The car easily has 12s in it seeing these trap speeds. Not quite the 112s or so I was hoping for, but it's feeling close to it with some more tweaking. I just have to be able to launch it. I'm trying to get down to a 2.0 without slicks. If I still can't break into the 12s without the slicks then I'll throw the clutch in, axles on, and mount the slicks up. It's sooooo hard to want to put the car down to start on the turbo stuff because I love driving it soo much lol. Anybody else have this problem?

Here's my video for my 13.6 @ 109 run

wheel spin = trap speed increase.

Not stock. It had no cat and I had started messing with it with HP tuners. If I was on nitrous with those mods and only running a 13.6 I would be giving up modding cars by now lol.

Strong runs, but I do agree with the starting gears. The vette held or maybe even started to come back towards the end.

For example though on my way to gamble in OK heading north on 35, my buddy and I raced multiple times cause he got a new 350Z with Nismo intake and exhaust. Anyways, after me starting in the right gear many of times and giving him a little beating, he said start in 4th (he meant for him in 4th). Well we were at 70+ and fourth puts me at like 3000k rpms or so. We honk and go and when he shifts somewhere over a 100, my car started pulling back the car and a half I was down and ended up freight training him staying in 4th to 140 or so. Made a big difference, if I was in third I would have walked away pretty good. In general he jumped out a car and a half, I started coming back and when he shifted I trucked by him pretty good.

Either way, your car is running good now, but don't expect that motor to take too much more 150 shots to 150 mph. Keep up the good work though, you have some interesting methods your testing!

Tyler

EDIT, I just got an idea. They did a test years ago where they sprayed a junk yard 350 with a 500 hp shot of nitrous, didn't blow but hurt it (it already took 100-400 just fine). Maybe I will go find an old stock Z28 80's style camaro with a 350, spray it with a 400 shot and call it a Viper Slayer? Hmm, sounds like a good idea!
