Where is the GM stage kit?
What's everyone getting their panties in a wad about? Were talking about maybe 50whp. It's not like the stage kit will be like strapping a JATO to your trunk or anything. Enjoy your car (which, stock, outperforms 97% of the other roadgoing vehicles out there). When the kit comes out, if it's an attractive option to you, then get it. Y'alls cars WILL NOT DIE without the upgrade....
Where do you live rural Utah?
I drove one, felt odd to me.
Plus it was a few grand more so I passed.
I like the looks but the shifter was to hard to get over.

I get a kick out of reading a topic's name then going to the very last page to see how it turned out.
Quite frankly, it ain't funny, it's just sad.
The gm kit is ok... I don't think they wanted to bring out an agressive setup. If you want just just a bit more punch without losing the car's balance, it's meant for you.
Paying a bit more for a little less hp while keeping the car under warranty is called playing it safe. If you don't care, then there are a couple of more agressive aftermarket options out there.
Anyhow, the TC is plenty fast stock at 260hp. 290hp is just better for us folks who don't race (whether it be drag racing or street racing) and are out there merely enjoying a sports car but also need to comfortably get the kid to the daycare centre.
It might suck for folks who want to kill everything on their path or get some killer 1/4 mile times, but for some folks it'll be plenty fast and plenty safe, warranty-wise.
Who's to say GM is not going to introduce a more agressive upgrade with time ? I mean the TC is barely 1 1/2 year old. I think it's a nice start & people should be patient. If you're not, well get an aftermarket more agressive stage kit.

There are high points to both cars. Both are plenty quick and cheap to mod. Both can get you 300 Wheel for less than 1000 dollars. They are around the same price range. Both quality tuner cars. Its like comparing a STI to an EVO...blah blah blah...at the end of the day both of those cars can run 8's when totally modded. Im sure both of these cars in the end will be posting similar numbers in term of HP and times at the track.
The Cobalt SS is very smooth. That's one of its great strengths. Go commute in a Mazdaspeed3 for a couple months, or (God forbid) a Cooper S with 17in runflats.
But it's smooth without sacrificing control. Look at the Nordschleife lap time. I've driven (only) half a dozen laps there, the Nordschleife is nothing like any US racetrack you've ever seen, it's not level, it's not smooth, half the time you're braking into a dip or popping into or out of the Karrussell or one of the other dozen places on the track that'll make a mess of a car that doesn't have enough suspension travel or damping. I'm pretty confident that most lowering/tuner-spring setups for the Cobalt would lose ten seconds a lap over the factory setup.
The old Evo was nice, but the current one has morphed into a huge, tall, heavy lump. Kind of a Caliber without the faux-Jeep sheetmetal and an extra four hundred pounds of poop in its shorts. Personal opinion, of course.
The local dealership has had a CSRT-4 on the lot for almost a year now. They even had the thing parked in front of Sams club and at the state fair, the mall, to try and get people interested in it ..
Guess what? it is still on the lot... Been same spot for so long calipers are rusted and it's dusty ( like most cars in the Dodge lot )
Chevy dealer sits directly across and I have seen 10 or more cobalts today with new dealer tags all sold in the first MONTH .. My car was at the dealership for a total of 7 days 7 DAYS! and it was almost gone the day before I bought it ..
It can't just be me who test drives these CSRT-4's and decide they are a piles of **** .... Especially since the car I test drove before that was a G8GT ( too expensive & no Standard) Nice ass car tho...
As Miller said, The cobalt drives smoother then almost all other cars in its class while retaining that comfortable feeling ...
Gas + Insurrance is why the SS won me over and I test drove

Hi Cory,
This kit will also include a replacement cold air intake tube, I dont have pricing as of yet and we are still looking at March for a release date.
I will post this up on the forums once the kit is released.
This came from crate engine depot. I asked what was included, priceing, and when will it be available.

U asked for it, and u got it. POS? HA! Not one problem. My SS/SC was in the shop several times by the 10k mark.
Unlike u, I dont think the SS/TC is a POS. Reason? Its a respectable tuner, and better than most out there. Easy to mod, easy to make more power, lots of potential. Is it my style? Not anymore since I owned a ****** lemon SS/SC. Its still a nice car.
Ya wanna know the other reason? Cuz I can appreciate a good tuner and am not living in an ignorant bubble like u are. All u see is SS/TC. EVO's, NSRT4's, STI's, WRX's, Ralliart, CSRT4, etc are all amazing cars and have tons of potential. Ur not a tuner, ur a fanboi. The difference? A tuner appreciates a car for what it can do and what it has done. U? Ur a narrow scoped idiot. Look at ur name: "BowTieTillIdie", its got fanboy written all over it. I hate to break it to you, but there are better cars out there than just the SS/TC. There are also better car companies out there than GM. The SVT Cobra can make tons more power than a regular corvette, both the 4.6l and the 5.4l. The engine can also handle it without internals. And theyre cheaper than a Z06. So tell me, which has more potential in terms of cost? A Z06 or a termi or shelby?
This is applicable for all cars, be it a 2k civic with 8k in mods, or a fully bolted Z06. Respect is applicable to these cars, and any in between. Fast is fast, and a good build is a good build. Obviously u cant appreciate that though. U need to get destroyed by these cars. Maybe then it will penetrate ur skull that GM is not the end all to autos.
22,800 with options. U can get them for 16k used. Once again, the search button.

nothings better than building ur own car, from body work to a motor swap. u have more appreciation for it in the end.

Makes me think this stage kit will have more HP/TQ then the other kits like previously stated. So if the 315/340 kit, with a intake. What will be the numbers, but this is also rated at the crank im sure.
No sheeeot. I got on here this evening, and thought.... "Oh crap, hope it wasn't my post that sparked the blaze!!!"
Anyway... Loving my SS/TC. Kinda on the fence about the upgrade, myself. We'll see what kind of numbers people turn when the setup does hit the streets.
Central Florida. Admittedly, it was a guestimate, but probably reasonably accurate. Unless you live in close proximity to a racetrack -- how many 13-second or faster cars do you expect to encounter on a day-to-day basis?

Guys. getting thrown back in ur seat from boost is awesome no matter what car ur in. i would drive a caliber before an hhr, hhr is ugly, but thats just my taste.

Here is what I received from my MT at my GM dealer this morning, via email.
Dear Mr. Steven XXXXXXXXX,
I finally had a chance to speak with XXXX XXXXXXXX yesterday afternoon regarding the stage kit upgrade for the 2008-2009 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Turbocharged. Mr. XXXXXXXX stated that this upgrade will be available for purchase on February 25th 2009. In regards to your question about horsepower and torque Mr. XXXXXXXX supplied me with the following numbers: 315 HP @ 5,200 RPM & 340 FT/LB of torque @ 4,800 RPM. In response to your concerns about whether this kit will be released with a factory air intake, Mr. XXXXXXXX replied with "No, not on this upgrade". The retail cost of this kit will be $699.99, excluding install. I hope I have supplied you with all of the information you requested concerning this matter. As always Mr. XXXXXXXXX, we value your business here at XXXXX XXXXXXX Chevrolet Pontiac Buick, and hope we can continue to be your premier dealer of Chevrolet, Pontiac, and Buick vehicles.
Thank You,
XXXX XXXXXXXXXX

Yeh, I know. You guys can thank me later. And as far as the "No, not on this upgrade" part goes, I have no idea. I'm going to email him back today and see if I can get more information. I'll keep you guys posted.

Guess what has been happening in OH? Theres been a surge of CSRT4's being bought. Reason? Realtune is out of OH, and they have been posting vids on the progress with their CSRT4, in addition to talking about it at the track. Also, theres a dealership in OH that is actually using his vids to sell them. Dodge fails at advertising.
People dont understand, and they prefer not to do any research. People are lazy. They want something that is pretty, and to bring their cars to the dealership for everything instead of working on it themselves. No one changes their oil anymore, hell Ill bet most dont even know what type of oil goes in their car.
Really, the CSRT4 is an awsome deal. EVO powerplant without the 40k pricetag. The Genesis is going to be an even better deal. I cant wait to see what that will do when it comes out and the aftermarket is available for it.
The fact that u think its a "pile of ****" shows ur pretty much in the general populus, and not really a tuner. You should seriously sit down and think about why u bought ur SS/TC. Sounds to me like u really dont know.
x10000. I agree completely with this. Someone builds a fast machine its impressive regardless of what it is.

The primary problem is uneducated consumers. People dont do research before they go and buy most cars. Most care 90% about how pretty the car is, and not what it does and can do.
