I agree with the getting back on topic here...

So where is the GM stage kit?

The real question is why is everyone so excited at the prospect of a WHOPPING 15 hp from this turd of a kit that has taken so long to release?

I agree, and don't forget the (probable) exorbitant price. Pass.

If that was WHP, then that would be a good number.

I don't understand why everybody is let down by the 15hp thing... we're still getting the originally thought 290hp, but they just divided the kit up.

Maybe they should have just called it Stage 1a and Stage 1b or something, since the pieces are all a part of the original Stage Kit idea for the Cobalt. Stage 1a + Stage 1b = 290hp. They can't take away part of the kit and still get 290hp. Think of this kit as a building block for later greatness .

I understand why they did this. With the delays that kept happening due to the intake issues, us chomping at the bit for them to get it out, them losing good business to aftermarket options, and many of us already having an intake, it made good sense for them to make this move. If you've already got an intake or more than you're already going to make 290hp or more with this kit.

well if people like myself with the hahn or other aftermarket intakes just get the stage 1 kit, we will still be getting the 290hp if not more, cause im sure the hahn intake still flows better than the one they will be putting out. Im kinda glad cause then i dont have to pay for the intake they are adding, but it would be nice if they added some more hp to the stage 1. say 290 and an extra 15 with the intake or somethingl.

How much will the stage 1 cost if the kit is just sensors and a flash? Please tell me it is not going to retail for around $650!

I am selling the Solstice/HHR/SKY kit highly discounted for $546... so don't look for it to be any less than that really.

how many people were gonna get the tune and not get a new intake anyways? i would imagine few. the most crucial parts are the learndown takeaway, the map sensors. the extra 15 horses doesn't make me feel bad either.

they did say end of june, which is when many dealers are tellin me too.

It seems disappointing at first, but GM made a smart move when you realize what they have done. Many people already have intakes, so there needs to be an option for those people and GM has done that nicely. GM is not forcing people to pay for something they don't need and already have. GM has listened to the community and delivered. They only way they could go wrong now is on price. The stage 1 price needs to be low, and the stage 2 would be worth it if it came with a nice attractive intake.

I am really hoping they make more performance accessories to complement these stage kits, like an exhaust, downpipe, header, boost tubing, braided steel brake lines. Some of those hardware additions would make some serious power. Staged LNF Cobalts could become feared by stock Challenger RTs and Mustang GTs at the drag strip!

And now for some math...

The lowest power to weight ratio is the best, because it indicates less weight per hp.
Say the Cobalt SS/TC weighs exactly 3,000 pounds.

Stock Power to weight ratio 3,000/260= 11.5 pounds per hp
Stage 1 PWR 3,000/(260+15)= 10.9
Stage 2 PWR 3,000/290= 10.35

The Stage Kits put down some nice PWR numbers, and are impressive when compared to some other sports/muscle/tuner cars. There are a lot more factors of who will win in a drag race, but PWR will usually tell you between similar cars of the same layout/class.

Some other cars (stock) PWR...
GTO 9.47
Challenger RT 11.07
Mustang GT 11.92
Pontiac G8 GT 11.36
Mazdaspeed 3 12.17
SRT4 11.34

The thing a lot of you dont understand is this stage kit is a lot more than it seems.. It gets rid of the Horsepower "learn down" which means that expensive downpipe/catback you have been wanting/have will do more than just make more noise.. The same goes with an Intake. With the gm LNF stage 1 plus intake, dp, catback.. you can expect a good ~310 whp.. and still be under warranty!

****, thats 60 more hp than what most i/h/e gm stg 2 lsj guys are seeing..

Still not worth the money?

and I will bet the Cobalt will put down roughly the same numbers the HHR SS with Stage kit do now... what something is "rated" and what it puts down is two totally different animals

hell, look at the LSJ, they dyno more to the wheels than they are "rated"

I expect this kit to put the Cobalt in the 270-275whp range, just like the HHR's kit, what i've expected all along, didn't care if it was rated 290, 315, whatever... I figured it'd dyno around 270... an intake isn't going to be a MASSIVE gain, you're talking 8-10whp AT BEST, though not even highly likely

Wow, still under warranty????? This part amazes me!

Ok... Can you recommend these parts? intake, dp, catback? Which do you recommend that will keep it 'under warranty'?

Cheers!
