You keep working at the rehab and you will make it. My knee surgeon was suprised that I regained full movement after 2 set backs and 3 surgeries.
The thing is, fighters don't quit.

Thats the truth buddy. Back when I was using a walker and in physical therapy I pushed myself harder then ever. My physical therapist would always tell me "ok you've done enough" and I would say OORAHHH and take a few more steps haha.

I planned on joining the military until this disaster happened...I am only 20, will be 21 in september, but I am sure I will find something else that will make me happy, like my gorgeous girlfriend and her beautiful daughter.

Brand-new, stock-bore block?

Bill what happens if and when the person or company who ships the product does a poor job of boxing / packaging the product up and it gets damaged?

When you ship something with UPS and it gets damaged UPS picks up the damaged product / box and shipping materials used and they check to see how well the product was packaged up before they start paying (unless its something of a small value ie: under 1000$)

I have shipped several Ecotec blocks in the past. The key to not having a cracked filter housing is to make sure its packaged up real well.

As for your thoughts of having a remote oil filter that should not be a problem.

If you want a block off plate that's already tapped and ready to go send me a PM. All you need to do is cut off the stock housing and bolt the plate on and your good to go.

I wouldn't recommend it unless someone else is paying for it Theres no reason he should have to pay for anything to fix this issue.

In the instance of poorly prepared shipment, the shipping company will refuse the claim. Once that's occurred, then yes...the disgruntled consignee can then seek relief from the company responsible for the alleged poor preparation.

But, by U.S. Federal transportation law...the first steps are to contact the shipper and allow them to investigate.

The fact is, there's a very good way to ship an engine...strapped to a fork-liftable pallet that is large enough to define an extra area around the engine that will keep it free from impact. We usually just wrap it in plastic, lay it on its side in the middle of a 48" square pallet, strap it down, and call it good. I don't know how this one was shipped, but that's the only dependable way to ship something heavy enough to hurt itself when it's being moved from truck to truck and etc.

OMG that sucks! I hope you can get this settled with the shipping company. I'd be furious.

Wrapped in plastic, centered on a full sized pallet and strapped down.
Also it is JBP who will be handling the claim initially, as JBP says that is the way other shipping claims have been done previously.

I will find out tomorrow. JBP paid plenty for the insurance and they are confident that it will work out. I guess now I wait until morning.

The engine didn't do too well making it back home intact.
Apparently today is just another day in the life of cars & Rod.
I guess it is now a good time for me to take a nap.

rod you can order an end plate from bates but you would have to buy a oil relocator kit for the filter that the route i took

I know you don't want to be out a dime on this (and for good reason) but you shouldn't necessarily blow off the remote oil filter idea. If it's cheaper than a new block (I'm guessing it would be by quite a bit) you may want to see if you can get the remote setup and pocket the difference.

Just a thought...

Love what you're doing with the red car btw

That looks promising =D. Although I still think with your luck it would be best to go with a brand new block no problems. Besides, if you go this route who is going to pay for it?

We will see what the shipping company says in the morning. A new block is preferable and possibly salvage this block as the spare for my race engine which uses a drysump anyways.
The bottom line is the time factor and cost. I am not paying a penny and I have stated that very clearly to JBP.
I also want a functioning/reliable engine quickly.

Your right, if this setup worked 99 out of 100 times guess what number I would be.
A new block is my preference.

Ya know, what's funky is that every time I look at that damage, I am convinced it happened from the inside out, not outside in. It's as if something forced the filter chamber open from the inside.

I am thinking you are my age Bill, where I need to where glasses when I look at smaller things.

The area in the circles indicate the impact points.

its possible there was a flaw in the casting process when the block was made and yes it looks like something definetly hit it from the outside and when that happened it exposed the flaws now i would definitly want a new block as you just don't know if there are other flaws somewhere else in the block. better safe then sorry.

You get sad for me? Imagine how I feel.

I believe it has to do with the casting process.

The melted aluminum is poured into a styrofoam mold in the shape of the block, then melts away as the aluminum hits it, but before it does it cools enough to take the shape. Its called "lost foam" casting and is used on most large AL castings now due to price and simplicity. The LSJ heads are sand cast, not foam, but all the N/A motors use this same procedure on the head casting as well.
