Yes possibly the synthetic oil would contribute. But I heard synthetic is actually better on cold start ups than regular dyno oil though. I stopped using regular oil years ago. Even when I got my daily I switched it over to synthetic oil. The extra couple of bucks is worth it to me especially in harsh winter conditions.

Hmm maybe I should do an oil change then. It was literately my first day at the new job lol, dealership wasn't stocking 5w30 synthetic at the time, they are now with me!

I suppose another contributing factor would be my phenolic spacers block off the real PCV port on the cylinder head to manifold, crankcase gases have no choice but to exit via the “make up air” hose valve cover to intake.
doing an oil change right now, feels like -31 outside probably also gonna pop off my intake and get the ice out for today

So I finally pulled the trigger and got stainless brake lines for the G5. I'll put them on in the spring once the weather starts to warm up plus all the stuff I bought over the winter so far. Let me know how you make out with your car today my brotha.

Noice!
Well on my way to work this morning.. there were snow drifts higher than my car where the trees blocked the wind. Just as I got to the cross street of the town I work in, I went into the off ramp and tried to go through a massive pile of snow lol. There was so much snow packed into my car's engine bay lol, for some odd reason the car even shut off, ABS light came on... Thankfully a co-worker was right behind me and helped me push. ABS light away and when I parked I found more ice in my intake , so that was my morning

Damn brotha lol. I can see now why you need a truck or a AWD vehicle up your way. That would happen to my g5 to it would trip the abs light and or the tc light and throw my car into limp mode so be careful of that.

Yeah, I'd really like something I could hit the ditch with and just shrug lol, either a jeep or a truck. I don't think it tripped limp mode but guessing the car slowed down quicker than the car expected tripping the abs/ service traction control system

Yup I agree brotha you need like a jeep wrangler or dodge ram something like that. My friend has a modified wrangler and he took me bogging a few times and its fun as HELL lol. I got another friend who got a cummins ram diesel and he raised it. Its riding in a freaking monster truck and the damn trq is insane lol

Honestly I'd really like an electric SUV or truck but that'd have to be new and I don't have new car money hahah. I'd also really like a 9-3 SAAB awd, but that's import money too.
The majority of vehicles out here are cummins, I feel like that would just be another hastle tho in the winter. I'd rock a Jeep Cherokee with big tires (that might be too nice for me) or any gas ram really, I 'd prefer and old school farm truck but even like a 2012 2 door would be cool

We sold this outrageous 8" lift ram here the other day was on the lot for less than a day, not my cup of tea lol. I'd like to drive a diesel this summer see what the craze is about, I know the new aluminum block Cummins have 1000tq stock

Well my engine just blew… got home and there’s steam coming out the engine bay. Popped the hood and it was burning oil on my headers. There’s no oil on the dipstick. Apparently left a trail of oil all the way to my house. Didn’t notice anything wrong driving home

not sure where it gave.. wasn’t the valve cover. Oil pan gasket is too low to heat the headers. **** me

Looks like rear main, valve cover gasket around the vvt solenoids, possibly more

Sounds like you had a serious pressure spike in the engine. The engine may be fine... you may have just had a PCV line freeze up. The crankcase absolutely needs to ventilate.

Fingers crossed that it's okay mechanically.

ugh my dude that is soo shitty. I'm really sorry to hear that man. Post up some pics when you get a chance after you have really got a full look to see. Did it tear threw the main block aka blown rod or piston. Until you get it up on a hoist or jackstands then you can really determine the damage and what your next step or steps will be brotha. Again really sorry this happened and on a freaking Friday no less. Keep me posted on this brotha and any questions I can answer or help you with.

Yup I was thinking the same thing especially if there was a blockage due to ice build up.

It sounds fine, I filtered my mel oil and filled it up to see if it would hold: it of course didn't but It gave me a second to see where it was leaking from. It was towed to work this morning, debating just replacing the engine. I think I'll have it inspected though to see exactly where the oil leaked from

Well when I got home I had some oil mel oil I was ready to dispose of, I filtered it and poured it all in, Car fired up no problem, it has compression. So I don't think it blew a hole in the block. Might've blew an oil passage in the head gasket, or maybe a rear main idk yet. Yea pretty shitty, it was my own stupidity though, I shouldve just been driving with an open valve cover knowing my PCV line has been freezing up. It's really sad that today is 0C and yesterday was -30 before the windshield. If it made it one more day, all the frozen pcv would have cleared

Weird thing with the PCV freezing up like that. I haven't seen that before.

Yup keep us posted on the update brotha. I think like usmcfield said its the PCV system had a major pressure surge and its probably due to the extreme cold weather and the ice build up. Fingers crossed the engine is fine. But I think this is your wakeup call brotha that your G5 is done in the winter and time to get a beater. I had the same issue two years ago my G5 struggled soo freaking bad and started my electric issues i'm still dealing with now. That's why even though I really couldn't afford another car I had to get one.

Definitely had too much pressure :/ Yeah I was looking at a 3.8l supercharged grand prix for 2k with a safety.. Looks like it's a rear main, apparently the terrain suv ecotec's a bad pcv freezing issue and the outcome was a blown rear main so that'd make sense. Little speculation that there's a hole in the block in there but I never heard anything so hopefully not

Sounds good brotha. Hopefully it's nothing too serious that it can't be fixed.
