I'll look for as much damage on my driver's side as possible for them to fix. Didn't see any roof wrinkles (which would have been ideal in my SS/SC quest) or any damage to the rear quarter.
if you're interested, why bother asking here ~ why not just email them via kijiji??
what the heck is going on there Steve?
My advice for you, and it may not be true in all circumstances, is that people who want to pay you out of pocket are going to try and be cheap and demand you take it to get three quotes and make it a big hassle for you, I would consider putting it through the insurance company becuase then you know that there will be no hassle on your end and you will have your car up and running in under 3 weeks

This is what I did when I backed into a pearl white Cadillac
nah, the dad still might do it, because if she's insured through him, in the end he could save on this...
I say get at least two estimates from shops you like based on rep/quality of work;
then bring both quotes to the father, and if he hums or haws, or gives you any grief, be polite, and go to the insurance.
make sure you get this done as soon as possible though because if you take too long to claim, you might get some hassle

I still think driving around and getting estimates is to big of a hassle, that you did not bring upon your self. I personally would just go to the insurance company and not deal with any bull. That being said if you call him and he said that he has got the money and wants to cut you a certified cheque by all means.
Also with that being said, lets say that there is some unforseen mechanical damage, if you take the payout, you will be on the line for that cost, where through insurance you take it back and it is done right the first time
