This thread really took off. Im driving mine around now . I made a plate to put under the clutch pedal in place of the carpet. Pretty simple. Cut a 3 inch hole in the carpet. Measure the thickness for the plate. Bolt or tac weld it in. Dont set car on fire.

interesting read, considering Im dropping an LSJ into my 04 cav that has the F23 right now.
i was going to do the LNF TOB, make a custom line, an elbow, and run the clutch line from the master into that elbow using the factory connection. Then use a grommet to fill the hole in the f23 housing.

when i removed my tranny yesterday i noticed my L61/F23 tob/slave set up looked great and seemed to be fully funtional, no binding at all. it has about 35k miles on it, was a stage2+ set up.

my question is, if i decide to stick with the stock one in conjunction with the LSJ clutch set up, whats the actual difference between an L61/LSJ/LNF TOB as far as quality? what is the 'performance' variable thats considered the 'upgrade' when doing the swap? naieve question but this would allow me to not have to modify the slave/arm and make my own pipe, i could just mate the tranny up and go.

thx for the reply! and well, thats what Im getting at...if my goal is only 270-300fwhp (once i put in my methenol setup and cams), will the factory LSJ clutch set up (that i bought from monograt) and an F23 TOB/slave be just fine, and if so should i bother buying a new one or keep the used one with about a year/year.5 on it (35k miles)? this is a dd with weekend hooning, it rarely sees the track.

so GM put in a supercharged engine with a lot more factory power than a stock L61, and went backwards in clutch quality/tolerance? thats pretty shitty. I bought a lightly used one off monograt since its required for the LSJ engine (8 bolt vs 6 bolt obviously). Im pressed for time and not wanting to spend $500 on a clutch upgrade right now..i guess it'll have to do :/

When I did my new clutch and trans I bolted her down and before I even did anything else I gravity bleed the clutch
That's my advice, bleed it before you get the cradle up again

$264.94: Ecotec LSJ Clutch Upgrade Kit 19212712
$6.10/ea (x8): Flywheel Bolt 11570626
$8.25: Cobalt Clutch Pipe 24422067
$4.75: Ecotec Clutch Pilot Tool 14534
$23.01: Ecotec Clutch Pipe Elbow 24252286

$349.75 before shipping

since I have the L61/F23 now (upgraded Stage2+ 6puck clutch), I need the tranny adapter which I have to fit the LSJ set up. If I buy this kit, Im not sure if the LSJ TOB is really any better than mine. The advantage to using my L61TOB (id buy a brand new one at like $60-70), I can mount it directly in and the clutch line from the master will plug right in as it does now to the F23 housing. if i use the LNF or LSJ TOB, i have to get the elbow, line, grommet to fill the hole, and possibly custom bend some line or fittings.

but the price isnt bad for the upgrade kit and i could always just sell my slightly used LSJ stock clutch/flywheel/pressure plate I have now to offset the cost. *sigh

Well, since this is talking other trannies now, I've got an F40 question. lol

I've been told already that I'm going to need to get an F40-specific TOB and clutch pipe, the clutch pipe going to an elbow on the F40 like it would on the F35. Does the F40 have an elbow on it though that the F35 line coming from the master cylinder will fit as-is, or is there a different kind of master-to-elbow line I'd need?

Next question would be around the adjustable clutch rod. I'll be using a new clutch master cylinder with the adjustable rod already installed. How do I know the degree to adjust the rod for proper clutch function, while not overextending the TOB either? I don't want to become a victim of messed up synchros from a clutch not disengaging or a victim of TOB death-by-rod either.

oh and thanks you asshats!... here I am losing my job at the end of the month and you peer pressured me into spending the $300 for the GMPP upgrade kit anyways! Just look for the guy panhandling at the stop light with a sign that reads [Will work for LSJ-Cavalier parts]

So Ive got a question for you guys who have done the GMPP clutch upgrade (19212713).
I have it from CED.
I have my LSJ stock PP and Clutch sitting side by side and the part numbers are identical between the two sets on each piece.

What exactly is it that's different between the GMPP one and the LSJ factory one if the part numbers are the same from the factory? How does CED or other distributors notice the difference or identify the 'upgrade' when packaging if they are the same numbers?

The only obvious difference is the GMPP one has two green springs and two silver vs the stock one with one green one and three silver ones. Clutch pad thickness appears identical, material, and part numbers.

^^^ that is not a stock lsj clutch on picture left, your car already had a GMPP if that is what you had.
stock LSJ clutch is a LUK SAC clutch not a SACHS NON SAC clutch.

huh...well the left one is the one I just bought from CED. the right one is a 'low mileage, stock LSJ clutch' from monograt I bought like a month or two ago, but decided to go ahead and 'upgrade' while its all out.

What he's saying is what you took out is not an LSJ clutch, looks like a stock LNF clutch.

yup GMPP upgrade and LNF pretty much the same thing; the disc has slight differences the pressure plate is identical.

well that's all good news, so I wont complain. And I never removed that clutch, it was purchased from monograt as a 'used LSJ clutch', with intentions of going into the LSJ engine being dropped into the car (hopefully this weekend!).

but im happy to have either a spare or Ill just turn around and sell the used one. thanks for the info!
