I forgot if you tried an iPod. If it doesn't work, your USB port is bad. Get it replaced under warranty.

I tried an ipod today and it worked, so the usb port is fine, I think. I pulled it out and put the thumb drive in and of course it wouldn't work. This thing should just work! I can't figure out why this is rocket science.

I borrowed a 2GB thumb drive from someone last night. Formated it at 4096 with FAT32. Loaded a single MP3 file. Plugged it in. AND IT WORKED! I wish I new why others won't work.

While this doesn't answer your question... even if it was possible (which i highly doubt) it would be WAY easier to pickup a cheap aftermarket head unit that has USB capabilities

You could just buy the USB deck form someone else that decided to get an aftermarket one. That's what I did to get the USB port in my car, haven't used a CD since.

i used to look at the digital only decks with no cd support like, "WTF is this where car audio is really heading!?".....

nowadays....looking back on it.....damn digital media is the future.

what's even better now though is.....sync'ing up with your music @ home while your in another state.

i personally see the future of music being done completely remote using techniques much like Steam uses for games. you purchase the music, and then on-demand download playlists/albums for cached playing....
