Yeah, actually. I had a really good interview with a company up in Wexford. It'd cut my daily commute by 10 miles, and they're not a bunch of psychos. Sounds win win to me.

Just kind of a general office job. Need something simple and easy that'll let me go back to school either for a Master's or for a degree in something else.

thats cool-good luck on that!

thats kinda what my job is doing for me-i work at cmu, so free education there=complete win. although its gonna take awhile cause i can only do 2 classes/semester, but i went to school for 2 years already so as long as most of those credits transfer shouldnt take me too too long.

Alicia, what happened with your job? I've been out of the loop for a while...

I think the GTO color was Impulse Blue Metallic, but I can't remember for sure. I don't think any of the ones I know of would have been around Greensburg.

I'm getting laid off, the 29th is my last day. Not really upset, I hated this job, kind of pissed that they plan on taking me to court over unemployment. Although I have about 3 solid leads on jobs right now, and I just sent out another 10 applications this morning, so I'm hoping I'm not unemployed for long.

I hear you on the job hunting. I have 23 applications out and all I got was 5 " we wont hire you because you dont have any experience" emails.

Im 99% certain I'll be leaving Pittsburgh sometime in July. Hopefully I get a job lined up before I graduate in June at least. I hate out of city moving. :-\

Only 23? I was told the first Monday of the month that my position was being eliminated. I just sent out my 20th internal application today, I've applied to about 35 external positions and registered with EVERY temp agency in town, and I still don't have any solid leads. I had an interview Monday, but I haven't heard a single word from them. It's too soon, but I'm hoping that I hear something next week. I mean anything and everything that comes up I'm sending an application for. Both because I'd rather have a job than get unemployment, and because I KNOW that if I don't find something, the company is taking me to court to try and make sure I don't get unemployment.

The last time I got laid off back in 2009, i put out over 250 resumes before going back to college.

Yeah. I get the feeling that this whole debacle is going to end with me back in school. There's just nothing available for my degree level in my field. I either need to get a Master's in Psych or I need to move into another career field, which I've been thinking about for a while.

I'm sorry to hear that. How in the hell can they deny you unemployment if they are laying you off? I'd fight that tooth and nail if I were you.

Hope you find something soon. It's been 2 years for me, my unemployment just went bye-bye 3 weeks ago. I *was* trying to get another HVAC job; gave up on that after sending out countless resumes and hearing NOTHING (I know where you guys are coming from- it gets old) and I'm in school for computers/IT. Should be done by Christmas if all goes according to plan. Hopefully THEN I'll find something...

Good luck, hope it works out for you.

They just appeal it and hope the judge finds in their favor. I called my old neighbor a few days ago, I remembered that her husband worked at Braddock. When they closed that site down, EVERY employee was displaced. She said that they offered her husband a position in Mechanicsburg (like 2-3 hours away) and a pay cut. They would not pay for moving expenses, he was going to have to commute. He didn't have reliable transportation and obviously he couldn't take the bus there. When he went for his hearing the judge said that the company's offer was "fair" and that by turning it down, he demonstrated that he was not willing and able to accept another comparable position and he got denied his claim. According to her, "she was told" that about 70% of the displaced employees were denied their claims.

That is some bullshit. How do they call that "fair"? I lived in Mechanicsburg for a while so I know how far it is- it's between Carlisle and Harrisburg. He would have HAD to move. It just proves that the unemployment office is in bed with the companies. Like I said, I hope things work out for you. God knows being unemployed sucks, especially in this wonderful economy. Things are getting better, though.
