Too bad you don't have one of them "lsjion's" near you..... They can time an LSJ in under 2 minutes, by themselves... eye's closed, one hand tied behind their back, on one foot...... okay I got carried away, but you get my point.

Well I just need someone to hold the chain so it doesn't fall to the bottom end while I'm putting the head on. And yeah I wish I had an lsjion near me too because it'll probably take me a few hours haha

Sounds. Like ur all set then. U should have it running in a hour or 2 if u have done this before lol. The first time is always a pain and a learning experience. After that its easy and a couple hour job as long beer isn't involved. Lol

Few hours? Psssh. It's crazy what that man can do in such a little amount of time. Get him & MrB on an engine together, and magic happens, PURE MAGIC.

But you don't have to hold the chain. There are little nubs in the head that will hold it for you.

the chain wont fall, it will get caught on the nub in the block, after you put the head on, use a magnet of a coap hanger to fish it up

This is my first time/learning experience haha
Here is my timing question: put engine at TDC, when I take the crank pulley off how do I keep the engine from turning over and going off TDC?

Very few things that go in one ear, don't come out the other. The stuff you teach me, I keep inside!

That kinda sounded gay.

the ring tension with help from going off tdc, but the crank gear has dot that matches the color link on the chain
Too bad you're not closer, I'd save you from pulling the timing cover.

I know there is a dot on the sprocket down low that I line up with the colored link. You said to take the crank pulley off with an impact, but just tonight I tried to turn the pulley with my hand just to check the resistance and it turned pretty easy

was the head off? another thing you COULD do if it makes you feel better is put the plugs in it, then your're fighting compression.

it can move a little, as long as the intake side of your chain is "taught" and the colored links line up, youre good. then put the gear on the chain where it belongs, lined with the last colored link and rotate the cam clockwise, should only rotate 45* or so iirc before the gear will fall into the cam

lol no need to feel dumb, once cylinders have some miles on them, it usually doesn't take much to turn an engine by hand with the head off.

putting the ex cam bolt in, is the last thing you do, when the chain has tension on it, is when i usually put the loctite on
nah, its not bad, just use a 15/16 wrench on the cam and a big breaker bar.

Reason #241 for why having an "lsjion" is good.

He has lots of big boy tools.

oh, and don't worry, you can reuse the bolt. I've only ever replaced them once.....3 swaps ago
65 ft lbs and loctite is all you need
