Just another Tid bit of information for the kidos,
No need to pull the plugs, disable the injectors and fuel pump relay.

There is this neat little feature out cars have, called clear flood mode.
It is meant for clearing out the cylinders in a "flooded" engine situation.
All you have to do, clutch all the way down, accelerator pedal all the way down.
The ecu notices the wide open value from the tps, disabling the fuel injectors.
So, there is no need to waste time doing all that other work.
Crank it 1-3 times for 3-5 sec each and you're golden.
This also works well for compression tests. And it doesn't matter if spark is present if there is no fuel preset to get ignited.
Same thing as dcfo anyway.

I usually just take the fuel pump out, take the injectors out, take the spark plugs out, and unplug the coil packs just to be safe.

i was going to college and had a new 2001 black cavalier, so all my money went to car payments, gas, rent, books, etc. Thats why i built my car the way I did now. Kind of figured I would make a car that I wanted when I had my cavalier.

Cranks but won't fire. Pretty pissed. Timed right, getting fuel, coils plugged in. Gotta be CPS

Set #4 at TDC on compression stroke and set the CPS. Still won't start

if you pull the cps plug and replug it in and it fires up then your cps sensor is off, but only do this if you are sure your timing is perfect. I had the same problems, symptoms as you.

also check your fuel pump relay if you pulled it. it should be upside down text on the relay when looking from the front of the car. Should match the relay to the right of it. Text upside down when looking from front of the car.

unplugged, then plugged in. It wont fire with it unplugged. Unplugging it and replugging it back in resets the ecu on that circuit somehow.
