[QUOTE=Blown 4-banger;1624631][QUOTE=WheatRocket;1624626]600? I thought I had read an article about GM testing the ecotec and the crank broke well before that. Am I wrong?

GM Rates the stock crank to 600. However if you plan making that much, make sure you have neutral balance shafts!
stock 2.2 cranck is good to 600 2.0L have a forged saab crank good to quite more. also removing balance shafts Is an RPM requirement not HP.

Thanks for the info Blown, and he is saying get the balance shaft because one, at that level of hp you want as little stress as possible on anything possible, second I bet I'm not going to coax 500+ out of the ol' girl without revving the **** out of her which will require balance shafts.

Ok, well I finally got the picture to upload. The picture is of my clutch, which I saw at SEMA. It has 660 lbs MORE clamping force, with dramatically less pedal pressure. However, I told the guy I wanted more than 13 lbs of pedal pressure (stock is 42 lbs), so he said he would adjust it to have more pedal force.

Now this is a video of how to properly balance a crank.

This is a picture of my FINISHED crank
We bullet nosed the front (made it round, to cut through the air better), and knife edged the back (to reduce turbulence), and balanced it by shaving material off the weights rather than drill holes in it (hence the above video). We got it to zero balance, and David (the machinist) said it was good to spin to 12000+ rpm

Those pictures=sex.

And pedal pressure def be heavier then 13lbs. Thats like less the a 90's civic's pedal pressure.

All that I have to say is read before you blab, no beef but, did you even read my posts? Apparently not, shut your mouth unless you want to make an intelligent comment.
I had an Exedy Hyper Single Clutch Kit given to me by a local shop. Anyone know what kind of performance I can expect from this?
I think this build is going to be killer, can't wait to see a Cobalt that is basically unbeatable, can't wait to see all the tears from all the sti's, srt-4's, and evo's. Put them in their place.

I hope your not asking how much power you will gain from the clutch.

His car will be fast, yes. But hardly unbeatable. There are Turbo cobalts now that faster than what he will be. He will be lucky to see 350whp with his blower, and that is being very considerate.

You know he isn't gonna use the stock blower right?

Last I talked to him about blowers, he was planning on using some 1.9L whipple or something equally nuts. He did measurements and everything, and it cleared the hood by 1/8" or so.

The Clutch will hold up fine to most of our power and abuse.

I was under the assumption he couldn't afford a new blower, so he will be using the stock one until he can save up. That is the last I was told by him.

Whatever power he doesn't make, I am sure he will just throw a bottle on to get his numbers. BTW, is he doing anything to the trans?

trans actually aren't that horrible. I put down well over 300whp with my car now, stock clutch still. Only thing not holding up are my DSS stage II axles. Driverside is starting to click again damnit.
That crank looks dead sexy man. Can't wait to get my stuff back form the machine shop.

I'm using stock blower. I told you that, I'm switching to a bigger blower down the road.

I am thinking I'll get pretty close to 400 whp on race gas with the 2.6". I'm decking the head and block, I've had some second thoughts on the 9.5:1 compression, so after the machining it should be closer to 9.8-10:1. Then theres the cams, far more radical than any cam thats been installed in a street cobalt before

Regardless, even if I do make only 350 (which I will definatly make more than that), that means that ready to race on the line or freeway, I'll actually be 450 whp

100 shot baby!

Works for the Cobra guys! Many Ported eaton + N20 cars have put whipple/kb cars in their place
